Looks like Jones succeeded. Must be ten or so posts discussing his article. Stuff and NZ Herald rigorously scrutinise each article to look for talking points. And Gifford had a go too. The guy never fails.
there is fuck all else to talk about. There is a Bledisloe this weekend, and i only knew that because i saw an ad yesterday. There is fucking zero build up. Both teams are in their bullshit "talk down" mode. We may as well have a discussion about that article, or i have to go do work
You could listen to this music instead of working.
It will help you to not forget...

@bovidae yeah, I saw that. I wondered though, is it really true that Liam Squire is “probably the toughest man in New Zealand rugby?”
What a load of shit. He hasn't boxed professionally like SBW or glassed some fluffybunny in the pub like George Moala and those two are puny backs!

@bovidae Jordie v Folau? Hmm, not a given Jordie will start at fullback.
Cully does say that in his article.
I actually think the most important matchup will be Smith vs Genia. Whoever has the better game will have dictated play for their respective teams.

Squire is playing for the ABs after breaking his neck, so he's probably up there.

The Walrus probably has a poster of Maro Itoje on his bedroom ceiling.

Yep it's just Jones being Jones, and by being a clever prick he is actually saying that this year 6N is best because they have teams rated 2-3-4 in the world, so he obviously is saying RC was superior when Aus and SA were 2-3 or 2-4 even.
Yeah - looking back, and excluding Argentina/Italy (rankings as of August each year) - the 2 competitions consisted of teams ranked:
2018 1,5,6 - vs - 2,3,4,7,8
2017 1,3,5 - vs - 2,4,6,7,8
2016 1,3,4 - vs - 2,5,6,8,9
2015 1,2,4 - vs - 3,5,6,7,10
2014 1,2,3 - vs - 4,5,6,7,8
2013 1,2,4 - vs - 3,5,6,8,9
2012 1,2,3 - vs - 4,5,6,7,9
2011 1,2,3 - vs - 4,5,6,7,8
2010 1,2,3 - vs - 4,5,6,7,9
2009 1,2,3 - vs - 5,6,7,8,9
2008 1,2,5 - vs - 4,6,7,8,10
... this was the first time he's been able to pull out this particular argument, and he certainly wasn't slow to do so. -
Living in U.K. It has to be said that the 6N has one incontestable advantage over TRC. That is how close the venues all are. It would be like having Oz, Boks and Argies playing out of Christchurch, Seednee and Breesbayen.
Means rugby weekends are very doable (and bloody good fun!).
Quality wise things are a step down. Jones (S) merely needs to compare the results of his fatherland in 6N (v. good) against those versus Blacks/Boks/Womabts (abysmal) to refresh his memory of the natural order! -

6N - the sheer spectacle and emotion of it, with 6 nations all so close, some bitter bitter rivalries, history of actual wars between them all... shits all over the "Rugby Championship" which sometimes feels like "well, we need to get some international rugby in too".
Saying all that - I'm still going to feel more enthused about watching NZ-SAfrica or NZ-Oz than England-Wales or England-France. -
@pakman travelling fans is a huge plus the Euro comps have on us...I cant imagine there'd be too many (if any) Kiwi/Aus/SA fans that would follow thier team around Super rugby,
Not sure you'd get many fans that would follow thier Int team through TRC either, maybe to SA or Arg as a Kiwi, but highly unlikely to go to both and to Aus as well.

My mates and I who are still in NZ would love to be three hours away from an AB Bok away game or Argie away game. As is, it probably necessitates at least a week, and probably seeing a non-AB game to make it worthwhile.
I'm in London, but an Argentinian boys week has been mentioned in late night ranting over beers!
