All Blacks v France Test #2

haha okay what the fuck?
-
Are a number of talented young locks out there, but not sure many of them are ready for that next step just yet, especially when they will inevitably be compared with SW & BBBR, arguably the finest locking duo about.
Arguably???
Wash your mouth out son. -
so based on the last 2 weekends, the Refs and the Judiciary are not on the same page.
@Frank in this PC world you gotta try to please the lower classes....

or down, as was the case on Saturday.
At least they are consistent...just not in the way we want or need.

"Having conducted a detailed review of all the evidence available, including all video footage and additional evidence from the player and submissions from his legal representative Aaron Lloyd, the Independent Judicial Committee dismissed the red card issued by the referee," a statement issued by the New Zealand Rugby Union said.
Video footage showed Fall at all times "had his eyes on the ball whilst it was in the air, which showed, in our opinion, a clear intention, on the part of the player, that he intended to contest it," the committee found.

What a farce. Feel sorry for the ref - they've thrown him under the bus with that decision.
-
y'all motherfuckers better start apologising...

Get fucked. World Rugby have shown themselves to be pathetic imbeciles incapable of consistency. This now sets a precedent that as long as you only ever look at the ball and would be in a position to catch it when it fell from the sky, you can blindly run into anyone and fuck the consequences.
-
I'm surprised at that.
Even though I don't want automatic reds for contested kick chases that go wrong, I'm surprised.
What happened to the Super Rugby guy who lost his footing and slipped into the catcher's legs?
This bit:
"had his eyes on the ball whilst it was in the air"
I'd say that should condemn him more rather than condone it? I thought that was what they wanted to 'coach out of them'? Make them take responsibilty for some spatial awareness and anticipation.
Fuck I'm confused. But, colour me surprised that I'm confused about rugby law directives, interpretation and application.

listening to the radio this morning Gardner has a process to go through, which he followed something like this:
Was there an even contest: No
Did he land on feet (penalty only) : No
Did he land on back (YC only) : No
Did he land on head: Yes - RC.Gardner was handled it pretty well, I said to TR Jnr at the time, he would get a RC despite being accidental, we see loads of accidental collisions with intention of going for the ball result in cards.
What they should have done was say the RC was sufficient punishment for the incident, lets all move on.

if i can remove my tongue from my cheek for a second and be serious
yea, pretty much this. Just when i thought i was starting to work out the interpretation of this (whether i agree or not) this gets released, and now i have zero idea what is acceptable and what is not.

Frenchman appeared looking at the ball the whole time.
So?
Turns out it helped him... I'm not sure what to make of them "cancelling" it on a Monday though...

The judicial committee appear to have taken the view that because he bumped into ALB, he was compromised:
From the moment the ball was kicked by France, Fall ran at pace to a position which he felt would put him in the best possible position to catch it, the committee said.
His line was altered by a collision with All Blacks centre Anton Lienert-Brown, which caused him to lose his balance, stumble and be "propelled or pushed" into the path Barrett was taking, the statement said.
Fall's attempt to contest the ball was "compromised" by running into Lienert-Brown and Barrett being flipped in mid-air was "in our opinion" a direct cause of that collision.
Fall had been denied the time and space to put himself in a position to avoid a collision with Barrett or to contest the ball as he had initially planned., the committee found.
The only problem with that is he took an extra few steps. At least three I counted.
It's a terrible decision. It's not as if Fall was pushed into Beaudy.

What the hey! Gardner is going to get burned by this yet this seems like a change in stance from WR. I will await Gopser and Pichot's tweets after conferring with The Walrus and Gallagher before being fully outraged.
Edit: Seemingly I'm swimming against the tide of the Fern at the moment in thinking the right decision has been made here.

Yep time to plough into any airborne fucker you want, use your peripheral vision to ensure you hit the target - I'd recommend the Irish start with that homophobe Folau!
FFS what a pile of crap

Yes. It was inarguably as clear a red card as I have seen under current applications.
I argued the opposite with the red card in the first test. I've not seen red cards for people ducking into tackles. Not saying it doesn't happen in other hemispheres or other comps. But in the rugby I limit myself to watching that isn't how I've seen tit refereed. But in the rugby I watch (I tune in halfway through SR and stay in the game until November, majority involving NZ teams) I have seen multiple red cards the last few years for kick contests gone wrong.
so, confused
-
@antipodean i said that at the time too! i am killing this!
Seriously, the judiciary are allowing far too many variables and mitigating factors come in to this. They are making the refs job impossible. Gardner will definitely be 2nd guessing the next one he is confronted with.
-
I know it isn't much consolation, but Ayoub agreed with his decision and thought process, so that is 2 of them that got it wrong.
