Highlanders vs. Hurricanes

The other thing that hasn't been mention so much: what the fuck was Savea thinking throwing a punch like that in this day and age of tv cameras. He was bloody lucky the camera moved away.
Having watched the wide replay a couple of times it does appear that RR is between Savea and Squires head so unless he manage to aim well im not sure he landed it. A brain snap like that would have to also be a black mark against any slim chance he had of ever being an AB again. -
Thought Luke Whitelock was pretty good there.
Lam - you need more work rate if you want higher honours.

@toddy Yep. I wouldn't have given it a yellow, but they have.
I disagree, but I'll have to suck that up.
Hope they don't extend to a red for that incident, but if they do I'll have to suck that up as well.
At least he's not a Crusader.
Yellow was more than enough for that incident. I thought Jules should have gone too.
But the cleanout on TJP doesn't look good. IIRC he's reaching for the ball and Squire torpedoes into him, shoulder directly connecting with the face. Would not be surprised if he cops 1 - 2 weeks for it, amazed the officials didn't even look at it again.
I won't lie though, I've never been a fan of Squire. He is niggly, often puts in cheap shots that could seriously cost us one day, and he has gone missing against the top teams basically every test he's started. He's a flat track bully.

But the camera's missed what Julian might or might not have done. The refs assumed he was up to no good and ruled out the try. Poor reffing really although there was a forward pass that was missed.
But Canes were out-muscled in the 2nd half. Plumtree has a lot of work to do. And Ricky looks like he needs a good rest. Hopefully he gets IT over the nest few weeks

@toddy Julian Savea should either reinvent himself as a midfielder or go overseas.
That was a really disappointing loss on the back of losing to nobody's second favourite team last week. The pack's not that bad on paper, so not sure what's going on there.

Is there even a slim chance of Savea making the ABs again? He so average now. Would he even command a big NH retirement contract?
Agree about the punch though. What a fucken dumbass (if he did throw a punch)
I reckon he'll still get a big payday up north based on his reputation alone. The NZRFU should grant him a release, to save payroll and to allow him to get a deal before teams up in the NH start watching footage and realise he doesn't have it anymore

So Jordie done a Norm Hewitt....kinda.
Apparently not intoxicated just entered an unlocked house he thought was someone else's with a friend to eat their Maccas....their friends house was over the road.
-
@taniwharugby Eating Maccas in someone else's lounge at 5am and not drunk. Sounds like a Tui billboard. But, as long as they apologise to the girls in the flat, I can't see a problem. I remember doing the Undy 500 back in the day and doing worse, although I obviously wasn't an All Black.
-
Every other day occurrence in Dunners. Nobody locks their flats, every house looks the same, Maccas...of course and not drunk???? haha.
-
It is clear that Julian has thrown a punch, it is unknown if he connected.
Even if he did, the time to cite him has passed hasn't it?

@mn5 from his FB page and his phone??
Call me an old stick in the mud but I guess I take offense to someone who's public indiscretion far outweighs what Jordie did sharing piss taking memes on his page.

Don't know if this has been discussed, I didn't watch the game.
But what's the difference between Squire's cardable offence and the tackle on Li in act of scoring try (by Evans I think)?
Both collected around the head/neck. Both with the ball carrier fucking low.
My opinion is Squire's is not even a penalty, but for consistency and so that I can re-adjust my 'filth' meter , was the other even looked at?

@machpants said in Highlanders vs. Hurricanes:
It is not the tackle he has been cited for but cleaning out TJ's face with his shoulder earlier in that game
Yes, and that's fair enough.
I hate cleanouts, full stop, opportunity to line a player up so no sympathy from me if they get in wrong , and when the do I suspect it's half deliberate.
But what about the in-game yellow? You can see the space Squire was expecting to hit, then the cane put his head in that space. Which was waist height or lower.
I know swinging arm is different ruling to a high tackle. But jebus, its rugby.
