Laumape
Laumape is overrated. His distribution isn't up to it at test level. Goodhue has the best combination of physicality, distribution, and defence, with SBW out.
He's a very solid player but I agree, I was hoping they'd work on that part of his game like they did with Nonu but he hasn't really shown much improvement there.
TBF, Nonu took a number of years before he was close to being a fixture in our backline.
I remember there were always arguments on here about why they persevered with him (even when he was a bit part player on the wing) shows how much most of us knew huh
Me and Mojo knew.
Last two people on the Fern in 2007 saying Nonu was worth persisting with when others were telling him not to let the door hit him on the arse on his way out.
Whatever happened to that guy - he wasn't as stupid as his avatar made him look.

His miss on BOD in Hamilton 2006 was monstrous - a colossal misread and had people I knew saying he shouldn't play in black again. I'm pretty sure he got dropped, too.
If only we knew what a legend he would eventually be. Remarkable player that improved ... now we'll get to see if Fozzie can do the same coaching

Is Basteraud even worth worrying about that much?
Genuine question.
depends, are you a coffee table?

On the subject of who should play now that SBW is out, I don't care too much what they do as long as Goodhue gets a run at centre somewhere in the series.
Heard reported that Razor reckoned Crotty would be good to go if the Crusaders were playing a day later this weekend. If so, they'll probably pick him to play vs France - in which case I'd guess he'll be paired with Laumape.
Laumape is the big bopper they like at second-five, so I can't really see him missing out on the first test now that SBW is gone.
If Crotty isn't available, I'd imagine they'll go with ALB's extra experience at centre in the first test.
But, it is important that Goodhue gets a run. All going well, he's going to be our centre for the next decade, so the sooner we launch him the better.

That is so good from you. But seriously, he's a bit of a fat waste of space isn't he?

I think if fit, Crotty will start, and we know he is versatile enough in the eyes of the selectors to start 12 or 13...

Crotty injured in the first team meeting of the first test squad. Maori Jesus called into the side. Has a blinder in the first test. Greatness is predicted. Gets injured in the first team meeting of the second test.
Then Rob Thompson time?

When news came out around the 2007 RWC that he was probably going to switch codes and go to Wests there wasn't all that much concern IIRC - even though our prospective midfield stocks were almost nil with Mauger and McAlister leaving, Toeava polarizing and Smith in the middle of a crippling run of injuries.
I wonder if Nonu ever makes it to legend status if Mauger or McAlister stay. Ditto Kaino could of poked up north without much of a thought in 2007, yet those two were probably our best back and forward in 2011.

Starting to look a bit like 2008 here with injuries and some rather underwhelming players in black. Been a long while since we were ordinary, maybe it'll just have to be this year.
-
Then there was Retallick, who didn't return after halftime due to what Cooper was able to confirm was a pectoral injury. The Crusaders' issues came a couple of days out from the match, but only surfaced publicly an hour before kickoff when their team was revealed, with Taufua and Goodhue now in doubt for potential test debuts. Coach Scott Robertson confirmed Taufua's issue was the calf one he had been carrying. "It's the same one obviously from the week earlier, which is a real shame for him. So we just hope he's in a race for those test matches, to be available." Goodhue's is a hamstring, with Robertson explaining it tightened up right at the end of their main training on Thursday.
The players will head into All Blacks camp on Monday and be assessed by their medical staff, with the only bits of positive news being that the knocks that Karl Tu'inukuafe and Richie Mo'unga picked up were both just cramp.

so whats our team looking like now...
Crusaders front row (when not suspended or injured)
Crusaders locks
Squire (if not suspended) Whitelock, L, Cane (Todd)
Smith, BB
Crotty, ALB
Ioane, Smith, Naholo
Harris, Ofa, Romano, Fifita, Ardie, TJP, Mounga, Jordie -
@taniwharugby you are missing a prop on the bench. Swap Fifita out for a prop and DMac comes in for Mounga (id pick Mounga).
