Commonwealth Games - Rugby Sevens

Injury and illness have forced changes to both men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams days out from the start of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. In the men’s team, young rising stars Ngarohi McGarvey Black and Caleb Clarke have both been ruled out. McGarvey Black sustained an ankle injury in a warm up game against Australia last Thursday and has returned home. Clarke, the team’s travelling reserve, was diagnosed with an appendicitis over the weekend and is undergoing surgery today before returning to New Zealand. He is being supported by the New Zealand Team medical staff and his family. Etene Nanai-Seturo has been confirmed as a replacement for McGarvey Black, while a decision on Clarke’s replacement will be made in due course. Kat Whata-Simpkins has been ruled out of the women’s rugby sevens team with a leg injury. This sees Tenika Willison move into the squad of 12 and Alena Saili joins the team as the travelling reserve.

WTF Mumps again? It's really going well for the NZ sevens teams! Not.
Commonwealth Games: Black Ferns Sevens struck by mumps
Black Ferns Sevens star Ruby Tui has contracted mumps on the eve of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Tui, who was part of the silver-medal team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is with the women’s sevens team at their pre-games camp on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, before checking into the athlete's village. She is currently in isolation and being supported by a New Zealand team doctor, who has travelled to the Sunshine Coast to be with her. The New Zealand team medical lead confirmed the case this morning and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 medical and public health teams have been advised. The wider team will remain in isolation at their camp while further assessments are made on players and support staff. The team had been scheduled to come into the village on Wednesday, but will now remain in camp until Sunday. The New Zealand team medical team lead and other staff also travelled to support the team on the Sunshine Coast today.

You'd think, after generations of Kiwis living on the Goldy and then going home after bitching about the quality of the "fush", that some form of immunity would be present to various strains of deadly Australian diseases.

So what on earth has happened to Isaac Te Tamaki, Teddy Stanaway and Lewis Ormond? Schrijvers and Bunce were superb at National Sevens, so will be great to see how they go. But can't understand the omission of the other 3. Injuries? Or Super rugby development teams?

Lewis Ormond plays for the Penguins team at the Hong Kong Tens. That tournament is often used to give NZ7s Dev players a run.
I think Te Temaki got injured at the beginning of the year, but I'm not sure of that. Stanaway hasn't been named since the Hamilton Sevens (not due to injury as far as I know). He's not on a players' list for the Hong Kong Tens.

Illness forced Ruby Tui (mumps) and Caleb Clarke (appendicitis) to be withdrawn from the squads, both have returned home to New Zealand.
The changes bring young talent into the women's squad, with 19-year-old Alena Saili replacing Tui in the playing group and 17-year-old Risi Pouri-Lane confirmed as the travelling reserve and in line for a potential international debut. Akuila Rokolisoa, who made his All Blacks Sevens debut last weekend in Hong Kong, will join the men's team as their travelling reserve.

Interesting. Has he signed with Auckland for the Mitre 10 Cup?
-
@tim No, sorry. The All Blacks website has stopped adding provinces to the AB7s team line-ups the last few tournaments, so I tried adding them. I could trace all the other substitute players to a province they played sevens for, but Nanai-Seturo's was the only one I really had to guess; mabye a wrong guess. Should have mentioned that.

TV1:
There will possibly be a replay of BF7s v Kenya on Friday, 7.30-9.30pm, and of BF7s v South Africa between 9.30-10.30pm (the second game might be live), but not sure.
The game between AB7s and Zambia will be covered between 12pm-1pm; I assume they'll show it live.
The schedule also says that they'll cover the Men's game NZ v Canada between 2pm-3pm, but that must be the women's game. Ha, according to the schedule, they'll cover the same game also between 3pm-4pm. Via a crystal ball?
The game between the AB7s and Kenya will be covered between 4 and 5pm; probably live.
The game between the AB7s and Canada will be covered between 10.30pm and 11.30pm; probably live. -
Joe Webber, who was a member of the 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medal winning team, has withdrawn from the squad due to injury. He has been replaced by Akuila Rokolisoa, who made an impressive debut for the All Blacks Sevens in Hong Kong last weekend. Teddy Stanaway becomes the travelling reserve.
Fuck, we're cursed, I swear! Are there any voodoo experts on the Fern? Make it stop, please!
