RC for Taimanivalu?
Forceful contact with the head, it should have been.
Who cares that M Mac almost fell into his knee, ‘falling tackler’ isn’t a defence these days.
Who cares that it was purely accidental, contact with the head is contact with the head.Come on refs stick to the rules.

Fucking McKenzie.
Chiefs fans will get used to saying that too now he's their first choice five-eighth.

No question the better side has won this evening,
but all you ever ask for consistency from the officials, having watched all 4 x games..inconsistency in around the high tackle interpretation is already creating confusion for supporters and viewers. -

The rules are there for safety purposes but I fear every game I am going to be watching this year is going to have problem in and around high tackles which is going to hugely influence results.
Except Steven that the laws aren't there for safety mate, they're primarily there to appease social and mainstream media, lest they lower rugby's appeal to corporate sponsorship.
These administrators and lawmakers have made a pigs breakfast of the game since the last WC and their sole objective has been to placate social justice fuckwits who'd never travel to a game rather than the people who actually "own" and love the game.
If you're fair dinkum about player welfare, then you start by decreasing the games played, not try to micro manage every fucking collision.
That yellow and penalty try make the game barely recognisable, and random as a legitimate contest.
A pox on them all

Quoted just so everyone can read that twice.

I'm sympathetic to the lawmakers on this one. The research from the NFL is terrifying and the physicality of the game is only increasing which will mean more and more concussion and head trauma. We can't just accept it as a cost of the game but there is clearly more work needed to get the balance right because I agree that the too often good tackles are being penalised.
I don't think shortening the season will be a solution though since the nfl season is 16 to 20 games, or about half the length of the rugby one.

Pretty messy game compared to last night. But a few decent plays.
I agree the high tackle card lottery is a fucking joke but that penalty try was the most clear cut example of a penalty try and yellow that you can get. It was a massive high tackle as he was diving for the line. If you can't see that you are blind.
Heres how to stop him legally, don't hit him in the fucking head. If you need to let him pass slightly so you get him side on and he scores the try then tough shit. You don't get a free high tackle because he is diving to score.Ngatai was wasted at 15. But i guess he will be out for 6 weeks injured now. Cane awesome as usual. Dmac still doesn't look like a 10. Maybe 9 is where he should be, TJP style broken field play with goal kicking as a bonus.
For the Crusaders Goodhue was good. Don't rate Bridge but a few good plays in the final 10 min. -

I came on here to rant about the stupidity of the laws, but this sums it up far more eloquently than I could have. Spot. On.
Too much enthusiasm to put people in the bin, not enough enthusiasm to look at what the players are actually trying to achieve.

That's spot on.
Mainly, what I've seen this weekend is that if you hit people around the neck or head you're probably going to the bin. I haven't found it too confusing.
Pretty scrappy game - useful points - onwards and upwards.

What about if the defender ducks into it? That mitigates a swinging arm. I find that confusing.

If you're referring to the call on Alaalatoa, that was wrong and was remedied on the big screen - and he was correctly binned.
There are going to be situations where a tackler sets himself for a perfectly legal tackle and due to a late action by the ball carrier - and zero fault of the tackler - he makes contact with the head or neck. He doesn't need to go to the bin.
Refs will make fuck ups but the logic seems clear.

The ducking mitigation for Crusaders card was stupid and again highlights the lottery of the whole thing.
One thing i might suggest is that diving to score is a more legitimate tactic than a deliberate dive or duck into a tackle or the farcical jump into the defence that the Lions got a penalty for.For me neither of the tackles that got yellow should be cards if they are in the middle of the field. However once Crotty was in the act of scoring it had to be yellow and PT otherwise you get a free swinging arm on any player who is scoring with the only "penalty" being the conversion being awarded automatically.
The REAL problem is that the consistency is non existant and those same tackles will be red at some point this season if they are going by the letter of their shit law. That is what is killing the game.
