Heres how to stop him legally, don't hit him in the fucking head. If you need to let him pass slightly so you get him side on and he scores the try then tough shit. You don't get a free high tackle because he is diving to score.

    That's spot on.

Mainly, what I've seen this weekend is that if you hit people around the neck or head you're probably going to the bin. I haven't found it too confusing.

Pretty scrappy game - useful points - onwards and upwards.

What about if the defender ducks into it? That mitigates a swinging arm. I find that confusing.

If you're referring to the call on Alaalatoa, that was wrong and was remedied on the big screen - and he was correctly binned.

There are going to be situations where a tackler sets himself for a perfectly legal tackle and due to a late action by the ball carrier - and zero fault of the tackler - he makes contact with the head or neck. He doesn't need to go to the bin.

Refs will make fuck ups but the logic seems clear.

The ducking mitigation for Crusaders card was stupid and again highlights the lottery of the whole thing.
One thing i might suggest is that diving to score is a more legitimate tactic than a deliberate dive or duck into a tackle or the farcical jump into the defence that the Lions got a penalty for.

For me neither of the tackles that got yellow should be cards if they are in the middle of the field. However once Crotty was in the act of scoring it had to be yellow and PT otherwise you get a free swinging arm on any player who is scoring with the only "penalty" being the conversion being awarded automatically.
The REAL problem is that the consistency is non existant and those same tackles will be red at some point this season if they are going by the letter of their shit law. That is what is killing the game.

Law interpretations aside, I thought that was a pretty entertaining game. Impossible to say how the season will pan out after one game, but both teams showed some class.

One thing is that DMac needs to show some vast improvements at 10. The raw talent is certainly there but there are way too many fark ups if he has ambitions of being an international 10. With Lima S pissing off it's BB and then about a dozen grand canyons.

Yeah looked like a good crowd, I was seeing Dizzee Rascal at Electric Avenue so watched delayed in my tired and emotional state.

First two cards were fucking bullshit, Dmac runs brilliantly sideways before getting ragdolled, Cane needs to go for a run. The Bosh could have tackled Crotty under the arms, result would have been a try rather than a penalty try and a card, which is better surely? Scoreline was accurate.

    Smell ya later Chiefs.

Just finished watching. Thought it was a great game.

Ref was very good. Tough decision for the PT and YC, but justified in law for sure (law might need a tweak perhaps, could have been PT but no YC).

Feeling good about NZ conference this year.

    Ngatai!

But, seriously. Who else is there, fucking M-Mckenzie? Fuck that. Falcon may be amazing, but won't get a chance.

We've tied ourselves to Dmac, so we'll have to eat him making bad decisions and us losing close games (or, as it turns out, not close games) and hope that this year or next he develops into something good.

Or Falcon turns out to be awesome if he gets a run and can't be not selected. Those are the options, because if it is Marty, we are fighting for 10th on the table (or worse).

Remember the days when we used to say ,

'if we lose Carter we are in deep shit '

its starting to feel like that again .

Looking at the penalty try last night, it reminded me of a similar one in the 2015 semi-final, where Jacques Potgieter got sinbinned, as the Highlanders were awarded a penalty try.
