I know everyone will think I'm simply white knighting DMac but his good plays made more points than his errors gave away. That's a positive return.
Leaving aside whatever the standard for a starting AB is.
There is a difference between being largely ineffective, but marginally positive and wildly hot and cold erring slightly on the positive side.
The game these days is built on capitalizing on those rare errors and it's tough carrying a guy when you know he is going to make four befuddling decisions per test (especially when we are carrying SBW who is good for one absolute boneheaded move).
You do know that he is filling in as best available option at the moment? If BFA or JB or Dagg were available he wouldn't be there?
You make it sound like he thinks he is in that 15 jersey from absolute merit when everyone knows the reality.Absolutely. My point was once you get down to your fourth choice fullback perhaps go with a different style of player - perhaps one who is more stable - but less flashy. The Colin Slade principle.
McKenzie deserved his selection up to this point, with the injuries we would have been foolish not to give him a genuine opportunity at test level. He has had it and come up short - move on.
Give either Havili or Duffie a crack for the remainder of the tour.
Havili was complete rubbish against the Baabaas. Did nothing good at all.
Duffle may get a chance next week although that linking play down the outside channels that is gelling with Ioane and DMac shouldn't be dismissed so quickly. It is how points get scored. The big difference being that Dmac has been rubbish after several SR seasons at fullback and spending over a year in the AB squad, while Havili is still learning the job, having played only one season at fullback and spending a few months in the AB environment. Havili has more margin to improve. This applies even more to Duffie.

20 point win over a tier-2 team. Ireland or England would’ve done us today.
England looked real world-beaters today, too.
-
@salacious-crumb Shhhhh, no spoilers.
-
@rotated Bit harsh on DMac.
He didn't have a great game tonight but he's been pretty good in the Rugby Championship and I like his attitude - seems to me to be real team player and has minimal brain-farts for an inexperienced player.
Big problem is where he sits long-term
-
@stargazer Ahh. Looks like an accountant - runs like a cheetah..

So I recorded the game on Foxtel - recording finished 10 minutes before the end of the game. FFS.
Happened to me before. You have to record the next as well just to be on the safe side.

BB talking about supporting the boys on Tuesday. So he won't be playing, and captaining, on Tuesday. Cane and Whitelock have played 80 minutes. Won't play on Tuesday, clearly. Did they take Read (or Crotty?) off early, because he has to captain on Tuesday? Who else to captain?

Duffle may get a chance next week although that linking play down the outside channels that is gelling with Ioane and DMac shouldn't be dismissed so quickly. It is how points get scored.Fair enough. For fringe players and back ups I'm taking the approach that you want to have a decent assessment of as many players as test level as you can heading into a RWC year.
D Mac isn't starting material at this stage even your comments seem to say that. Either way we all have our own opinion on him and know what he is about, he may turn out to be better than Duffie or Havili after they are trialed, at which time we can always turn back to him.
At some point Hansen needs to start setting some standards and giving some failing grades (with work-ons of course).
Pretty tough to rate players using non-competitive carnival games where the ABs always play low energy and messy. By no means was Havili our worst player last week, D Mac possibly was tonight.
I'm not saying cut bait completely, just try someone else don't get into another Donald situation where come the RWC Duffie and Havili have 2 tests between them and we don't even know if they can cut it at this level. Age or injury could very well knock of one or both of Smith and Dagg. Barrett is still unproven. What then?

@chimoaus think it was about 20 into the 1st half one was banging on about how awesome Carl Hames was!
OUr scrum was superb or shite.
@westcoastie I thought Fifita was a bit anonymous, his workrate isnt up there enough yet.

Yeah, I thought I'd be fine as the recording finished at 9:15am and I thought I'd catch up with the recording but I fluffed around before watching this morning.

Fuck this season can't end soon enough.
First half good and looked on tge way to a decent performance but second was shit.
FFS how dumb is SBW? He cost us the second Lions test with a back to league brain explosion and let the french back into the game again today.
100% correct call for the penalty try. He gets taken out of the equation once he does the illegal play. No different to a slapped down pass or high tackle on the line.
Don't know why people are complaining about that.Generally i like Gardiner but he sometimes gets a bit flustered and rides one team more. Think ABs were on the wrong side of that today eg. The reversed penalty and the non quick tap.
However the ABs didn't help themselves by constantly being offside. Must be bloody frustrating being a coach watching players giving away lazy offside penalties given it is a pretty simple concept.

@crash said in AB Test Team v France.:
Our defence looks a bit creaky
Not on our own line though, French had us pinned back scrambling and defending for our lives, each time they won penalties yet still couldnt break us and score. (not as easy if the ref doesnt award a bullshit penalty try)
-
If this wasn't France's best team, then what are we getting against our C team on Tuesday? And how does that team rate compared to the French Baabaas? I find it hard to know what to expect from our own reserves and back-up reserves, let alone those of the French.
