was that the first time they have run Cane 80?
The impact of our subs this year has been poor, in fact you could say been a negative of our game.
Last night 2 moments stand out, Pat T dropped one cold in the 22, and then that dumb shoulder of Ofa, one as we were building, the other with a great counter opportunity.

Overall disappointing result for ABS some needed to stand up and didn't. Wallabies have been building but did the game mean much?? that added motivation that counts for 1-2% that is the difference between winning and losing international matches the ABs just didn't have it.
With a full strength Wallabies and All Blacks missing a few players it took the wallabies till the 80th to secure the game and heading into the next couple of years I still worry for them. They have relied too much on Genia (who has been awesome) Beal, Kepu, TPN, Hooper etc, these players are being played for 80 minutes every week as they have to with no other options. I fear they will be played out of form and burnt out when 2019 comes around.
For ABS Lacked 'firepower' or xfactor. in forwards only Read and backs SBW and Naholo looked likely tonight. I know players out but Coles and Whitelock in forwards have not provided the big moments as they have in past (although still great players.) Crotty and especially Sopoaga then McKenzie when moved to 10 did not direct us around at all.
Overall I though our D was good but our attack lacked spark and hardly ever looked dangerous. I think ABs are playing more reserved overall after being scared by linespeed that NH teams have brought, looking less likely, especially in wet conditions. -

There were a couple of big hits and some periods of solid work, but you did not deal with line breaks well at all.

Not sure if mentioned, but after Folou made what I think was his first decent break with that nice off-load, the next ruck, you see an AB player get cleaned out and both is feet were vertical way over his head as he went down
Saw that. Barnes was right there and the TMO must have seen it.
Lot of neck rolls last night too. Like the officials have forgotten about it.
-
@taniwharugby he was right there when your blokes were crawling on the deck illegally as well
-
@nta and when one of your wingers was held, got up and went and pulled down by the same player not letting go, but we could play this game all day!
Face it, Barnes was shite last night, he's normally good bar the odd clanger but all round he was poor last night, I guess at least he was shite for both teams, thats ok isnt it?
-
@taniwharugby I think he relaxed some interpretations based on the conditions.
e.g. he started the match very tough on the scrum pre-engage space, but backed off unless it was a serious collapse. A couple went to deck later but he let them play.

our kicking from hand was pants...how many did Folau, thier best attacking player take without needing to take more than a few steps?
This, we have been punishing teams for years for their bad kicking. Last night we did what teams usually do to us, we fed their back three copious amount of uncontested ball. We basically handed over possession time and time again and it hurt us in the end via tackle count and missed tackles.

Poor bastard was out on his feet, game stats say Cane made 27 tackles.
Interestingly the highest wallaby was Mcmahon with 11.
Squire & Whitelock made second most tackles with 15.
Some shocking defensive stats were Crotty made 3 tackles, missed 4 and turned it over twice. And not much better attacking wise with 2 runs for 12m.
-
@chimoaus especially as many of his tackles were hard hits too.
Yeah Crotty was surprisingly poor last night, normally so consistent, did ALB even get on the field?
Back to back games we have thrown an intercept early on to give the Aussies the lead.
Cant recall who it was moaning about Smith taking a quick tap behind and off to the side of the mark a few weeks back, but WTF was up with Barnes letting Genia take one in front of the mark and his eyes?

Yes, he replaced Crotty in the 70th minute.

@chimoaus
Probably a toss-up between Squire & Kaino
Our entire midfield group has a question mark over it, could Crotty/Goodhue be the answer (worked for the Crusaders)
Back three, Ioane/B.Smith/??? Could Havili be the new Dagg on the wing? not sure if NMS really set anything on fire this year.A backline bench of TJP (maybe) SBW DMac has some spunk about it.

After the World Cup we had something of a golden run which I guess was a bit of a surprise with all the players that had moved on ,
It's almost like the delayed hangover has hit 12 months later , injuries , form issues etc have made us look a bit more vulnerable,The rest of the rugby world will take heart from it , more stories will appear , we aren't the force we used to be , aura should make an appearance again etc etc
But I personally still think we are in a great position if we look forward to 2019 , when it comes to raw talent , it's still there ,
But the coaching and planning could be the crucial part moulding and putting it all together .

We the game was supposed to be played at 3am PST so I got up and it was half time. Not sure what happened. Agreed the backs looked like they were coached by Blackadder but the Aussies had good line speed and we did not adapt. The game has to be won in the forwards and it was even or perhaps they had the better of us. Get Akira into the mix. He adds X factor and in the right environment he will excel. And SammyC give the Todd thing a rest. He is not going to be the player to take us through the next WC. Jettison him now as well as Savea. We need to start building a more dynamic pack.
