Another thing under Ritchies reign was that the team would always stay composed in that pressure situation (The learnings from 2007 apparently)
It looks as though if we aren't smashing a team we are in panick mode a bit.
Crusaders look a lot more composed this year with Whitelock as captain instead of Read.
You can't really isolate the on field captaincy and ignore the change at the top. The Crusaders simply look a better side this year, it's whataboutery to suggest things would be any different with Read as captain (and vice versa).

@Rapido Pause the video at exactly 20.21. It's as clear as day and you would expect the TMO to pick this up as I assume he has not just this angle, but also others to work with.
I guess I am of the view that when you are playing at home, you seek to get any home ground advantage you can find and therefore was dissapointed with Sky for not replaying the Sexton tackle. But I do also see where you are coming from in many ways. It's just a hard pill to swallow in this series where it seems most of the big calls have gone their way, so a little home town help would have balanced things out ever so slightly.

Agree it's only one factor.
But at least he doesn't spend half the game waving his hands in the air appealing to the ref like Read did in the past.
I reckon that shows better composure.

Read seemed passable to me, just the same as Richie and Fitzy in the early days. Both had their Waterloo and became better captains out of it - the only worry for me is he doesn't have as many years left in his career as those two did.
Ben Smith and an established midfield was missed in terms of obvious on field leadership. But what can you do?
The only player who I thought had the personality and opportunity to really boss things a bit more as Aaron Smith. But he was fine, just maybe missed an opportunity for "the Aaron Smith" game - getting hooked at the end didn't help.
-
I'm guessing behind closed doors the abs brains trust will accept this as a failure , (despite some of the positive spin shag put on it )
With the wc two years away , I don't mind that part , hopefully we will look back at it as a turning point .

Whilst we are talking TMO, can they check if the player was actually out in the last sequence of play. I didn't see any replays to see if they were clearly out. I'm sure they were but maybe that was what he was waiting for at the end of the game, he may have been thinking of checking and then decided not too, no idea.

They can't check that unless it's in the act of scoring.
That said, I thought Jordie was 100% out but somehow Peyper didn't put his flag up. You could tell he knew what was at stake. Even when TJ (I think?!?!) picked it up and was IMO clearly in touch he was very slow to act.

Heard a tedious 20 minutes of radio in the car this morning - Mexted being interviewed on the DRS, and Mex spent about 95% of the time bleating about the refs & refereeing in general. Not a peep about the All Blacks skills levels beyond a brief mention of goalkicking. For someone involved at the level/type of coaching he is, I'd hoped for something more insightful about skills under pressure etc.
I know some miss him in the commentary box. I don't.

I don't either.

Give me Mex over Meg all day long.
Fark no.
I can handle the guy getting muddled by laws occasionally.
Couldn't stand mexted's parallel universe where the laws were to be ignored, coz they bummed out the vibe.

I thought the ABs by and large composed themselves pretty well right after that 'accidental' offside incident. So much so that we dominated the Lions scrum and provided an excellent platform to attack from. However Perenara thought being a traffic cop was better than being a halfback ready to take advantage...
Some moments in a test are bigger than others because of the context in which they happen - and whilst our pack stepped up, unfortunately our halfback didn't and we lost possession and field position.
In terms of captaincy and lacking composure etc, not sure. But the two previous full-time AB captains have had their teething issues early on. I remember after the loss at Ellis Park in 04 that people were questioning Tana's play and captaincy. Richie in 2007 after a season and a half as captain. Mind you both of those captains had plenty of experience around them, as does Read.

@ACT-Crusader yeah TJP seems to have regressed considerably this year (for the ABs) unlike last year you wanted him to replace SMith, this year you want Smith to stay on!

I know it might seem that I'm making a run for TSF broken record award (although I've got a ways to go to oust gollum and the US politics thread), I watched the accidental offside thing about five times last night, so I got see the scrum thereafter five times. Still baffles me to think we lost the ball from a scrum going forwards and a Lions player was able to get it.
