seriously though, lots of players have been preggers and just taken that time off rather than full on retirement

Not everyone waits until they get married! My eldest was 9 months when I married his mother. But yeah, you'd think she'd mention it if it was the reason. It just seems so random and strange at this stage of the season. And she's only 25 as you say.
I reckon she'll be back though.

She is only a US Open win away from having the set of Grand Slams.
Good on Barty for going out on her own terms.
With the absurd inconsistency of the female players right now, this is really the time for a player like Barty to pile up the Grand Slams. I don't think she's the best or most talented by a long shot, bit she's the most consistent and winning all 4 Slams this year was not out of the question. But if the motivation isn't there (or there's a bun in the ovenš) then fair enough.

Barty said her perspective on life and tennis had changed since she made her comeback and added she was physically āspentā.
āThere was a perspective shift in me in the second phase of my career that my happiness wasnāt dependent on the results,ā she said.
āSuccess for me is knowing that Iāve given absolutely everything, everything I can.
āIām fulfilled, Iām happy, and I know how much work it takes to bring the best out of yourself.
āI just donāt have that in me anymore. I donāt have the physical drive, the emotional want and everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top level anymore.
āI am spent. I just know physically I have nothing more to give and that, for me, is success.
āIāve given absolutely everything I can to this beautiful sport of tennis and Iām really happy with that.

perhaps translated as "if I get slammed in my own country for enjoying a beer after winning the Aus Open on TV, the rest of you can go get f*cked, Im done"

@kiwiwomble I don't think she is married yet. Engaged last year and weren't looking for a long engagement from all accounts.

@kiwiwomble maybe that is why she retired. Her husband found out about her fiancee. She would have got away with it if it wasn't for the blasted fern and their meddling dog.
