Better team won tonight I feel and that's hard to say as a bogan from Upper Hutt. Too many errors from us. Jordie the better of the two Barretts by some way tonight,
I disagree. Cane's were the better team, but they're a bit arrogant in going for tries and turning down penalties.
Don't they lose better points for that? A better team would kick their penalties and the better did and the better team won.
The captain makes the decision, not the team. So I guess we can agree to disagree.
If the better team had the better captain they would take the penalty and the better team would win.
Apologies for being a dick now.

As a neutral I'd say Chiefs deserved winners. Forwards had ascendency in tight, but Chiefs very much missed BBBR. I thought Chiefs 9/10/12/13 each outplayed their opposites. BB off. Love Charlie Ngatai's skill set (watch out Lions) and ALB everywhere. That Chiefs reserve hooker really stepped up when had to pack in seven man scrum before Stevenson stepped TJP.
Expect Chiefs to take Brumbies, so will require Canes to step up against ChCh to deny them second spot. -

Bad miss from TJP. He's been all over the show in this match.
Played like he was auditioning for something.... Quite erratic and should've shown a calmer influence. Not taking penalties right in front of the sticks in what is a tight match is poor.

We just didn't take our chances through bad handling poor passing and questionable decision making. Man I hate losing to the Swamp Rats

I thought Jordie was pretty good. Got heavily involved and threatened the line and counter attack all night. A couple of errors but slightly better than DMac's performance tonight.
I love that the Canes try to keep the ball alive at all costs and play high paced footy, but it seems that it's the same guys phase after phase. Julian needs to get more involved, Aso other than a couple of okay runs seems to wait and hold back.
The last three Chiefs games I've watched and noticed Cane does give away some silly penalties.

Only got home from the game just before midnight, thanks to a full bus not stopping and having to wait an extra hour for the next one which makes a fucking detour through all the outer subs.
My first impression was that on balance the Canes deserved the win more. Just a bit more. I don't know how much you guys could see that on tv, but a lot of offending by Chiefs players were not penalised (one example: there was a huge tackle on a player without the ball in first half, ref let play continue and Chiefs almost scored a try), more so than by Canes players. IMO the officiating was pretty bad, both ways, but Chiefs benefited from it more. I kept wondering during the game why there were assistant refs, because they didn't seem to notice anything and warn the ref.
Stand-outs for me were ALB from the backs and, surprisingly, Lousi from the forwards. He did some really good stuff, and that's from someone who usually doesn't rate Lousi. The defence of both teams seemed to have the opponent's attack sussed out completely and was very good. That's what made it such a good contest. Laumape was well controlled by the Chiefs defence, while McKenzie and co couldn't do much against the Canes' defence.
Am wondering whether Allardice will get a meeting with the Sanzaar judiciary, but also have my question marks about a possible high tackle, I think from BB.
Will watch the replay of the game later this weekend. Will be interesting to see if that changes my first impressions.
By the way, Cruden really didn't look good after he injured himself and it was absolutely ridiculous that they only took him off early in the second half. Why risk it? He couldn't even walk properly. About Ngatai: it looked like a back problem from where we were sitting. Strange to call his substitution tactical; it looked more precautionary, to not worsen a possible injury. In the cotton wool that lad, he has a Maori ABs game to play!
Finally, it was interesting during warm-up how BB called Black Fern Kendra Cocksedge back to the side line and was clearly discussing goal kicking with her (her kicking was spot on during the test). After that, he talked to Jordie and Jordie started practising his kicking. Maybe they were just discussing the wind direction (although wasn't much wind in the usually so windy city), but it made me curious.

Surprised they didn't have a look at JB's 'tackle' to slow down Cruden in his try attempt. Looked reckless and above shoulder to me.

Hmmm, how often do we see a penalty for off side when the ball goes straight out?
Goosen in for the Canes.
Odd call that one

I haven't read the game comments yet but ALB kept Laumape very quiet with excellent defence.
ALB was pretty awesome all around. looking the goods at the right time of the year.
Reminding me of Conrad.

Chiefs were really good tonight, great scrum, real desire. really deserved their away win
But I reckon they're fucken dicks
They carry on like Aussies or Lions - always yapping and slagging off
Fucken ashamed that NZ rugby has stooped so low.
And get fucked Chief's supporters, sure all teams do it, but you fluffybunnies give the Poms and Aussies a run for their money!
I like it how TJP doesn't flap that whole fucking time like a little wee bitch
This. Not a good look at all.

Captain forms part of the team.
Better team scores more points.

Was about to pontificate on this one but realised I was getting mixed up with the tackle on BB.
On that one: on first glance at full speed I thought it was dodgy and potentially cardable.
Subsequent viewings I opened my other eye and thought it was ok.
Re the Cruden tackle I have no comment as I kept trying to look at his knee to see what he had done.

Too fast for Conrad - that run he made in the second half was sensational

Agreed. The initial angle from behind looked damning but they never showed that replay again.
I also thought that the BB tackle on Ngatai deserved at least a penalty if not a YC. Ngatai completely flipped and landed on his head. You could argue it was accidental but it was still reckless.
