They reckon Green and mundine pocketed 10 mill each ,
That is unbelievable given their standing in world boxing right now ,
they milked the Australian public beautifully with their supposed grudge ,
I know people who have seen them joking and laughing together .
10 million each? Did the fight really pull in that much?
That's what they were aiming for , but have since heard it will not be that much, 6-8 ,
Second highest pay per view figures in Australia , second to Mundine green 1 .
Pretty sure Mundine geale , and Mundine soliman were 3 and 4 ,
Says everything about the marketing value of a villain doesn't it ?

Yep, Ali knew that better than anyone.
Still seems incredible that 2 40 year olds could bring in that kind of cash. Impressive.

There is no way they came even close to getting 10 mlll each. Lets do some basic maths.
28,000 watched live .. .average of what ... 100 a ticket maybe? Thats 2.8mm. Which leaves 17.2mm. It was 60 AUD a throw for the ppv ... so you'd need 290,000 orders of that, just to hit the purse for the main fight.
And this would mean no payment for Buffer, the venue, the undercard, security etc etc .
If they took 3mm each, I'd be surprised. Nobody gave a shit about this fight outside of Australia. -

What were the results from the weekend? Did Mundine win? Quade as well?
Scroll not working on your mouse again?
I still can't see the Muindine result on thread (If it is via a tweet/instagram) it won't show up on my feed. I just get a blank post.

Quade Cooper is undoubtedly an athlete, so I'm sure if he really fancied a proper shot at boxing, he may be able to make a decent fist of it.
But fighting that guy damages his boxing career in a big way. A fat kid who looks totally out of shape as a boxing opponent? Seriously?
Hooroo - Green won by decison, but the decison went against most pundits view. One actually scored it 98-90 ... which is beyond a joke.
-
@MajorRage you think he really fancies a shot at boxing? I think it's a sideshow to break up the monotony of footy.
And this fight is only outrageous if you still consider boxing, and especially boxing in Australia, as having any credibility at all.
-
@mariner4life Probably not ... but he should be above getting in the ring with such an absolute joke of an opponent. By all means, throw a donkey in there to get the win, but at least try and disguise that the donkey is a donkey.
-
@MajorRage McInnes did have 'fighting' experience. Even more than Cooper. There's generally a sideshow in the undercard. I personally don't think it does anything to diminish the sport or main event.

Outstanding pun in the first paragraph.

Obviously not on the latter point ... but it does make a joke of QC boxing in my opinion.
Your comments on the undercard are yet another reason as to why I firmly believe UFC is a far better option than boxing. But that's another discussion.

I think these novelty type fights on local cards are an attempt to create some extra interest to the average man on the street who probably knows more about footballers than boxers , in the hope of getting a few extra PPVs,
Non boxing fans tend to pay attention to it, die hard fans give it very little interest , roll their eyes and move on

How much would the guy who fought Quade have been paid do you think?
A packet of durries and a case of XXXX
Totally worth it then. I probably would have pushed for a week's worth of big macs too but he is an athlete so not surprised he didn't.
-
@antipodean Blimey how old is that and what card is that?
I'm not saying there isn't some shitty fights out there ... but you aren't going to see something like Quade Vs Fat Kid 2 fights before the main event at any UFC.
