All Blacks v Ireland II

I guess on your tiny TV screens in NZ you can't tell the difference. On my 65" it was forward.
Wow. I have seen some dumb shit on here over the years but that is right up there. I have a TV screen that is more than capable of showing a players hands being directed away from the try line.
Funny how these idiots show up after the odd win against the AB. The Saffas always do it then disappear - some notable exceptions of course.

I think SA losing to Italy shows that while we are good the results in the RC were deceiving and that the southern hem sides are not superior at the moment - Ireland OZ will tell a story
A few months ago (June Internationals), Boks beat Ireland 2-1 in a home series (with Ireland winning first game in SA). A lot has changed since June with Bok team basically going down hill (hardly won a game since, except 1 against Argentinia). Back then I noticed Irish having a good season. Based on Chicago and today, I think they will give Aus a good go (as long as there aren't injuries).

@Tordah what happened?
After Fekitoa scored and Barrett was lining up the conversion, the usual TV director shit comes up and he shows the last pass which was flat, a few in the stadium start to boo, Rory Best comes running from behind the posts up to Barrett who was preparing the kick and PEyper and wnats them to check
It wasn't even flat.
But at least O'Piper sends him away. Eventually.

That would be the one that "fell off the back of a truck"?

Just logged on to say fair play and cheers for a cracking series lads.
Proper, hard as nails rugby from two teams who wanted to play ball. Was delighted to get that monkey off our backs a fortnight ago and proud of the effort today, especially from our pack even if we lacked that little bit of attacking guile that sees your lads through when your backs are against the wall.
As losing Crotty last week affected your attack, there's no shame in losing our attacking shape after losing Sexton and Henshaw so early. That and your fellas superb defence was the difference in the game for me.
That and Brodie Retallick. What a beast of a player and the best player in the world by a distance in my book. I thought we had the edge in a lot of areas of the pack but that fecker evened the scales all on his own!
Agreed with Hansen's comments on there being no malice in any of the tough play tonight. The ref was a bit all over the place but I didn't think either side came off worse and we've only ourselves to blame for not exploiting the rubs of the green we did get. The decisions not to scrum penalties close to the line when we had a man advantage were shockers.
Anyway, enough rambling. Just wanted to say congrats and cheers for a fantastic 2 rugby!

I won it in a bet when the Proteas lost to the Black Caps.

I think trying to compare two test results that are weeks apart has been fraught since the dawn of time.
-
@munstergreen welcome aboard. Stick around, good times ahead for Irish footy.
-
Just saw this slow-mo of the Cane high tackle on YouTube. At the time in the match I thought it was more of a head-clash and a penalty only was a fair call, but the second angle here looks really ugly.
I expect a citing for both Cane and Fekitoa.

@SimonAdd_2 colour me shocked a tackle looks slightly worse on a super slow motion high def replay.
Shoulder to shoulder, arms involved, no sighting required. In fact that just confirms to me that it wasn't even a penalty.
It's not tiddly winks.
-
Shoulder to shoulder? Get out of here, that's shoulder to face and you know it.

Bit surprised not to see Dagg involved in the kicking in this game, his punt would have been useful at times especially clearing from our 22.
Does anyone know the possession stats?
Ireland had 66% possession (source: Opta)
Wow.. we won, pretty convincingly with 34% possession? Looks like we have a LOT to work on, but also goes to show how good Ireland are.

@ACT-Crusader cheers bud. Yeah there's a lot to be positive about for us lately. A few years ago we were terrified about losing the likes of O'Driscoll, O'Connell and Wallace. Now, although we mightn't have individuals of their quality, we suddenly have a far higher average bar and real depth across the squad.
There's still a long way to go. Our set piece, defence and pack are a match for anyone but today just proved again how far behind your lads we are in attack, especially when we lose our first choice midfielders.
Jared Payne is the leader of our defence and a rock in the midfield, but I'm not convinced we'll ever be an attacking force with him at 13.
The trick for us is bringing this intensity into every game of a 6nations. We usually have no issue raising our game for yourselves or England but then fail to show up against Wales or something frustrating like that.
Shame Schmidt isn't leading the Lions down your way next summer. Can't help but feel we're missing a trick with the 3rd best coach in the home nations at the helm.

South Africa are not great right now, but their NH tours are usually poor a bit hit and miss , even when they are playing well during the season
For whatever reason , they normally save their best for the ABs, ask any Saffer ,
Dont overlook that , almost every team that plays NZ sees it as their Everest , and puts in a special effort , including Ireland ,
I think we can read too much into individual games , because all sides fluctuate in their performances a bit from game to game , and need to look at the bigger picture , say the last 10 for example to get a more accurate guide
-
I can't believe Schmidt isn't coaching the Lions either, unbelievable that Gatland is. Only due to knocking off England in the WC I feel.

Who is it you think you're talking to? I'm a neutral here, I have no axe to grind.
I posted the video because it shows an angle that wasn't shown on TV (at least on my feed) and it changed my perception on what I thought was a borderline penalty to a pretty clear yellow at least.
And from your defensive reaction, I think you see it too.

Simon there are no neutrals. You're an All Black fan or a hater. We know that.
Replay shows what was seen in the coverage. Confirms that left made contact with the chest and wrapped under the ball whilst right shoulder impacted Irish player's shoulder. Head clash on contact.
Nothing to see here. Shouldn't have been a penalty.

Watch the second angle. Point of the shoulder straight into the head, no shoulder-to-shoulder, no head clash. Your analysis matches what I though in real time, but that video shows it to be clearly wrong.
World Rugby announced a crackdown on even unintentional head-high shots immediately prior to this series of internationals. If you think they won't take a look at this you're dreaming.

Definitely above the shoulders, not particularly dangerous but should have been a penalty at least.
Not remotely in the same league as Cane or Fekitoa's though.

Simply an accidental head Clash. It was sick. Should not have been a penalty. I assume the Irish bloke knocked on, memory fails, and therefore should have been an AB scrum.

I'd have them all in the same league and give them all 12 week bans personally. Fair's fair.

If WR are serious about eliminating the upright tackles (and their language seems to indicate they are) you could legitimately see 4 citings from this match.

So what you're saying is that Sexton committed a foul in an attempt to stop a try from being scored. Which is a professional foul. Which is a penalty try and 10 minutes in the bin.

Only a penalty try if the try wasn't scored, only a professional foul if you view it as deliberate (which I don't think it was). Even so, a penalty should have been awarded and a YC wouldn't have been out of the realms of possibility, yes.

Disagree, the angle is mildy deceptive but it is pretty clear the shoulder doesn't touch his face, the impact to the head is the accidental head knock.

Sexton aimed high and swung his arm at the head.
Lack of injury means it didn't get highlighted.

Fair enough, looked like Barrett dipped a bit to score the try to me but it's hard to judge intent. As I say, a yellow wouldn't have been disproportionate either way.

The video is shot at or below waist height and Cane is closer to the shot which makes him look slightly bigger. Better angles (you know, the ones shot from the professional camera crew) showed there was no contact. I'm honestly amazed you're trying to argue otherwise.
-
To expand on that, even if that shit angle was available to the refs why would they use it when other angles were able to clarify what happened? It's like if a try is scored and one angle shows a clear try, and another shows it looks short. They're not going to ignore the angle that shows the try and rule no try.
-
I spent the first half furious with Peyper, the first 20 of the second half furious at our own players discipline.
The A smith card was ridiculous, the reffing of the ruck turnovers was ridiculous. Realising this ABs should have changed their approach and contested more rucks, but then Peyper ....... When we did contest we got nothing or penalised for our troubles. It was very strange.
But. Ref blaming cry babying gets us no where. Need to learn from this and break the perception.
Irish pack are awesome.
Although I registered that both Henshaw and Sexton went off, didn't really think about them as a combo on the spine, and their attacking cohesiveness.
Very annoyed in real time with Barrett's dickheadery with trying to run that try too close to the posts. Although in hindsight should have been a 10 point try or opposition down to 14, could have accidentally paid off if Peyper didn't get annoyed with his own TMO ......

No shit. But it wasn't on. And when he realised it wasn't on, instead of just diving he kept trying to get behind.

Thought it was ok. On replay the irishsr played it with his palms 'up'. Normally it's a slap down.
In normal time it looked dodgy though!
That refereeing performance by peyper is second only to a Wayne Barnes classic against the ABs. Dreadful.
