Well Burns has justified his spot to England as far as I'm concerned. Yeah sure Sri Lanka are fucked right now, but he still made 170 in a day and showed the right shot selection doing it. Can also go the tonk as evidenced by his BBL form.
And is anyone any better or worse against a swinging Duke under English fucking cloud that always seems to clear up when the Pommy bastards bat? Probably not.
Sri Lanka are fucking hopeless in the field. Those dropped catches were simpleton shit in some cases. They're utterly disinterested in long form cricket and just want to put the stripey pyjamas on and whack the white ball.
Losing their two best batsmen ever in quick succession has turned them into a team of utterly crapola proportions.
It's basically what terrifies me about the BCs when KW and Rossco give it away.
Murali and Vaas as well before them. They had a seriously good team for a while, some all time greats came together at the same time. Probably hid the underlying issues with a very amatuer/corrupt administration. They've always been one of my favourite teams so really sad to see how low they've gone now.
Always felt like it was an issue bubbling away, particularly when Sangakkara was captain and eventually resigned because of it. But it seems to be even worse now.
Sri Lanka have produced a few genuinely world class players over a short period of time though. Arguably more than NZ.

Starc gets one to just kiss the top of the legside bail. Terrible defence from Karunaratna
How the hell is this "test" still going?
-
@antipodean 3 more wickets in the last hour so it isn't going far. Starc returning to form against a SL side already thinking about a cold beer - they're 5 down at lunch for 87.

Can you believe the Big Bash is still fucking going?
The first game was the 19th of December! In what world does a T20 tournament need to take in excess of 2 months?

Yeah. Thought that this arvo when they were playing a replay on tele.
They've cooked their own goose. Nobody gives a shit anymore, and all the kids are back at school so the crowds are down.

Didn't they look at their own backyard and the shit-show that was super rugby as they tried to expand, expand, expand.

So is the NZ tournament, yet with 2 less teams. It's taking them almost 2 months to play 10 T20 games each.

Mind you, biggish crowd in Hobart last night. Was a semi final though, and Hobart were run away leaders (but lost). A few gaps in the crowd which would not have been if played a month ago.

@booboo fucken cold though.
My mate who coaches said last year the proposed extension was hard to recruit overseas players for the extra time and their availability for finals, so that's a perspective. But if the extra weeks don't lose money, then consider it a done deal. The financials trump kids bedtimes

I wonder how much of that was the calendar this summer being condensed for the WC though. Every major nation has played white ball cricket during this window right, with a greater than usual focus on ODI cricket right?
When it was just over the holidays you could be sure that all English players would be available 2/4 seasons (mandated in their CBA), and there would be at least one sub-continental team who would be the "odd man out" and available, plus NZ's calander would usually allow for T20 specialists to be available for the bulk of pool play or the end of pool play and the finals.

In the 57th game of 59, which happens to be a semifinal - the team that's fourth in the standings knocks over and knocks out the top ranked Hobart Hurricanes.
Hurricanes lost 4 of their last 6 games. Hardly had ideal momentum, whereas the Stars sprinted into the finals.
