Mark just made it look easy though. Beautiful to watch

Mark Waugh would have to be the most elegant right hander ever right?

When the most elegant batsmen are listed the same names along with Waugh come up - Gower, Lara, Sobers, Sangakarra, Fleming and Turner (in an NZ context) - all lefties.

    Crowe

Yeah, except he just misses out due to the glorious unparalleled elegance of Martin David Crowe 🙂

If anyone was rude enough they could call it a bit of a flat learning curve.

Not sure if this has been posted (couldn't see it yet) but this is an itneresting documentary from supersport on the ball tampering.

not quite finished, but a generally decent summary. Completely omits the SBW facemasks though!

Some people may have forgotten that the tour was already a controversial shambles before the sandpaper incidents. The sandpaper was just the most dramatic incident of a very unpleasant tour.

I'd personally rate Lara the best to watch by far out of that lot. Or anyone really. Seemed to get the backlift up so much quicker than anyone else.

    Dragged ourselves to 288.

    India three down early.

Apparently; it's on pay tv here so nobody is watching.

Just read this piece on MDC from Mark Nicholas back in 2012

"To a man the Australians came to our dressing room and raised a glass to the bloke with the knackered knee who could still bat with the gods." Describing Crowe playing for an invitation XI 2-3 years after he retired. MDC made a century againt the touring aussies. Never knew that.

I had to track that one down:

I favour an innings hidden away in the Oxfordshire countryside, at Wormsley, home of John Paul Getty's fascination for the game. Retired for almost two years and without having held a bat in hand during that time, or a net in preparation, Crowe walked to the wicket to open the innings for Getty's team in pursuit of 267 to beat the touring Australians. A full attack sans Shane Warne went after him, and of the first 16 balls delivered by Glenn McGrath and Jason Gillespie, Crowe failed to hit one. At No. 17 from McGrath, he rose to his toes and struck a wondrous back-foot drive that remains as vivid to this day as it was then. He made a hundred, of course. We would have won if the rest of us had not been such muppets. To a man the Australians came to our dressing room and raised a glass to the bloke with the knackered knee who could still bat with the gods.

This is some of the most awkward, painful coverage and commentary I've even heard.

    1. Mark Waugh making weight jokes in the box, with a female commentator in there. She had to interject to ensure the viewers knew Waugh was referring to the blokes only.
    2. Who does Waugh think the England born and bred female commentator would support in an England v India world cup final? FFS what a dumb ass question.
    3. However, she (what's her name btw??) did blot her copybook when she said a shot was "beautifully timed" only for Waugh or Haddin to say it was a thick edge.
    4. Then after drinks we have to endure one of the most awkward on-field interviews ever as they ask Nathan Lyon about two questions too many as he's trying to make his way in a hurry to the bowling crease. Tremendous innovation that, Fox. Yikes.
    5. Just after that they announce we're going to tune into Alex Carey behind the stumps. For several balls we hear him scratching around in the dirt, playing with the bails and saying "Well bowled" a couple of times. Fucking ground breaking. Thankfully one of the Indians smacked a six to break the boredom and bring Larry, Mo and Curly back into it.

Oh for fucks sake, Mark Waugh. They'll be calling for his head tomorrow. With 222 required, Waugh asks "Where's Richie Benaud when you need him?"

The latest: Warney jokes about 'checking out' the female commentator (Isa Guha?) and then a ball or two later Waugh again corrects her after a Sharma shot.

Fucken hard to listen to. Cringe worthy.

What? You can't mention weight and women?

I know you were letting off steam, exactly like I do but we gotta resist the bullshit narrative and double standards about how precious and fragile the female of the species is.

Being obsessed with women's weight is an "invention" and standards initiated and promulgated by women. By and large, blokes just wanna get laid but somehow are harangued into the role of fat shaming villain

Nice to see the Aussie boys laughing and enjoying their cricket. A win, I know, but they looked like a happy team again for the last hour or so.

The cynic in me suspects (and speculates) it was a bit of marketing ingenuity for the retro uniforms after an annus horriblis: "let's make them look like they did when all of Australia liked them"

I don't see any issue with that at all. Sounds like Isa was poking a bit of fun at the idea "never ever mention a woman's weight or you will feel my wrath". I mean the commentary was cringy as fuck but that's a non-event.
