This is some of the most awkward, painful coverage and commentary I've even heard.

    1. Mark Waugh making weight jokes in the box, with a female commentator in there. She had to interject to ensure the viewers knew Waugh was referring to the blokes only.
    2. Who does Waugh think the England born and bred female commentator would support in an England v India world cup final? FFS what a dumb ass question.
    3. However, she (what's her name btw??) did blot her copybook when she said a shot was "beautifully timed" only for Waugh or Haddin to say it was a thick edge.
    4. Then after drinks we have to endure one of the most awkward on-field interviews ever as they ask Nathan Lyon about two questions too many as he's trying to make his way in a hurry to the bowling crease. Tremendous innovation that, Fox. Yikes.
    5. Just after that they announce we're going to tune into Alex Carey behind the stumps. For several balls we hear him scratching around in the dirt, playing with the bails and saying "Well bowled" a couple of times. Fucking ground breaking. Thankfully one of the Indians smacked a six to break the boredom and bring Larry, Mo and Curly back into it.

Oh for fucks sake, Mark Waugh. They'll be calling for his head tomorrow. With 222 required, Waugh asks "Where's Richie Benaud when you need him?"

The latest: Warney jokes about 'checking out' the female commentator (Isa Guha?) and then a ball or two later Waugh again corrects her after a Sharma shot.

Fucken hard to listen to. Cringe worthy.

What? You can't mention weight and women?

I know you were letting off steam, exactly like I do but we gotta resist the bullshit narrative and double standards about how precious and fragile the female of the species is.

Being obsessed with women's weight is an "invention" and standards initiated and promulgated by women. By and large, blokes just wanna get laid but somehow are harangued into the role of fat shaming villain

Nice to see the Aussie boys laughing and enjoying their cricket. A win, I know, but they looked like a happy team again for the last hour or so.

The cynic in me suspects (and speculates) it was a bit of marketing ingenuity for the retro uniforms after an annus horriblis: "let's make them look like they did when all of Australia liked them"

I don't see any issue with that at all. Sounds like Isa was poking a bit of fun at the idea "never ever mention a woman's weight or you will feel my wrath". I mean the commentary was cringy as fuck but that's a non-event.

I'm not sure what the issue is.

Shaming a fat fluffybunny is often just the incentive they need to lose weight and be healthier.

Good on ya Mark, Steve was more of a legend but you'll always be my favourite Waugh ๐Ÿ™‚

She clearly said that because she felt clarity was required. Anyway, that was about the least stupid comment of 1,000 stupid comments amongst the team last night.

You'd be amazing at support group meetings. You'd need to bring stools and a lot of rope.

It's not the most PC approach granted but surprisingly effective....

The commentary for that first ODI was cringeworthy and thatโ€™s not because of any PC alerts. Itโ€™s not funny and the constant coaching coming from the โ€œexpertsโ€ is tiresome.

By the way, Mark Waugh was effortless as a batsman. All the natural ability and obviously worked hard to get to where he was given his brother was getting more of the spotlight.

Technique wise, I reckon Damian Martyn was textbook.

@ACT-Crusader It's a weird old summer for commentary this year in Aussie cricket. With the shift in networks they've tried to jazz the test and ODI commentary up, more akin to previous years' BBL commentary rather than the staid Ch9 crew. Quite a few of the same people are being used from the BBL commentary. And for the BBL, the good little group they had on rotation has been expanded and diluted in return. The results aren't great and probably aren't what was wanted.

The loose banter that works in festival-esque T20 commentary doesn't translate well to the longer formats, while the BBL commentary can lack personality and pizazz while a lot of the previous years' commentators are on international duty.

@shark I think you need to differentiate Fox from Channel 7.

I found the Channel 7 test match commentary to be pretty good. A nice departure from the blokey bloke Channel 9 coverage, with a few foreign voices and good analysis from Trent Copeland. In the breaks they bought in journos like Gideon Haigh and Peter Lalor for some high-brow cricket chat, which I very much enjoyed.

Whereas the Fox guys went down the blokey route, with Waaarrrney leading the way.

As I touched on in the other thread. I hate Nicholas for trying to be one of the boys with the Aussies he commentates with who ranged from legendary to very good at test cricket back in the day.

You were an average county cricketer, you never played a test. Fucken know your place fluffybunny.
