And in the new season of "How to Fuck a Rugby Club Until It Dies":
-
Despite lowering our rego fees to $150 (includes shorts and socks) I've still got guys saying "Aw prez can we pay $5 a week?" in a 14-week season. I will let you guess their cultural background.
-
The local Council have decided that our ground - and 33 others for various sports - need to be shut all of March for maintenance. Season starts 2nd week of April.
-
I lined up another ground to share with a soccer club temporarily, after two other clubs didn't want to know. Was going to chip in a bit to help them cover their leasing costs. This was with a different Council, who had rejected my advances when approached directly. Anyway, the Council caught wind of it, said to the soccer guys NO GET FUCKED NO SUB-LETTING OR WE FUCK YOUR SOCCER CLUB AS WELL!
I'm starting to think that this just isn't meant to be

So while we're discussing the coaching of the Blues, did anyone else notice how crap these two looked last night?

Start of NSW Suburban (Subbies) Rugby season today.
We're back in 5th Division in a 2-Grade comp (2nd Grade optional). Today we'll face off against last year's 6th Division finalists, who fall into the "optional" piece, Manly Savers. They've got a few ex-Premier players no doubt and have been a stalwart in 6th Division pretty much forever.
I expect we'll have a tough day of it, but at least its only 1 game, and maybe some of our Islanders will show up and make a contest of it?
I've already seen that a 6th Division club forfeited their opening round game. They used to be a top-division side, but then the demographics changed and they have had disciplinary issues the last decade or so ongoing. Last year they were in the Halligan Cup which is a "maybe this week" setup you can slap a team together and get yourselves going again. So these are not good signs.
Such is the nature of rugby here, if they forfeit again we'll be reaching out to them and asking if they just want to come play for us this year. I need players as well.
-
@nzzp I'm good for today. Only having to run one Grade is amazingly stress-free! We should have numbers, and I'm not bothered by the result.
I'm worried about the state of the game generally though. What I'm hearing from guys in rural rugby here and NZ is troubling.
Club registration per year is set at $150 - includes shorts, socks, all the game day physio, and free food post-match back at our pub for home games.
Still got blokes asking if they can pay by the week. Wtf??

$80 fees at my club here in NZ. If you don't pay you don't get to play for the A team.
That rule would work for me EXCEPT all the guys who pay their money just want a trot in the 2nd XV.
And, true to form, two of the "stars" who said they were showing up, didn't.
Luckily three handy Maori fellas showed up and paid their $10, signed into the team app, and got on the park.
Lost 33-14 against a team a fair bit younger, who clearly train together more than us. Was 19-14 at one stage and very competitive game.

I wish you'd stop posting all this sort of stuff. It makes me feel nostalgic and want to search out my old boots.
