On a slightly more positive note: at the Subbies AGM I managed to get a couple of minutes talking to new CEO of NSW Rugby Paul Doorn. Seems like a nice bloke and not the usual school tie fuckwit. He's from the south coast so understands that we're sick of rugby being all about Premier clubs.
The fact that he turned up to the Subbies AGM speaks volumes.

Hallejulah! At last a bloke with qualifications and a relevant performance record in rugby. He has the toughest job in the game ahead of him, other than coach of the Aero-Pelican Newcastle-Sydney Commuter Service Harmless Wallabies - good luck.
Time passes and the memory of inner Sydney Mosman grazier wee Billie Pushover and the appalling Castle, "The Goth", fades ... praise be!
As I recall she was returned to New Zealand along with 30 other sentenced New Zealand offenders in about October ...

He's overseen the worst period in SANZAR/SANZAAR history.
So yeah, pretty much automatically qualifies him for our top gig.

I read that as Doom.

I've only just seen this (and I know that I am cynical) but that was Richard hitting on some blokes girlfriend / wife wasn't it? Doesn't seem very Christmassy.
Its a fun situation when you’ve got a professional rugby player, who could squash you like a bug, cracking on to the girl you’re there with. It happened to me once, and it was a strange feeling because I was like ‘looking at the situation objectively, you’d be mad to not tell me to go fuck myself’.

I wonder if Richard had a card prepared if the boyfriend / husband came down to the door with "go fuck yourself" on it (which I am lead to believe from unreliable sauces is Wesotych Swiat in Polish, but that might be Merry Christmas).
He probably followed that with "she's coming with me" and she likely would.

Sorry dad.
Has Mrs Snowy not subjected you to this movie? It's the line as he walks away.

it might turn out to be the best period. Where a stupid super rugby set up was finally kicked into touch and replaced with something good. As long as it continues with a local competition to start (otherwise Aussie with 5 teams won't be able to compete with NZ teams = failure) followed by crossover matches (like 2021). And the money earning 4 nations continues (SA doesn't shoot themselves in the foot and pull out)
Hopefully the new leader (he can't be worse than Castle) can sort the Aussie mess out (due to incompetent previous leaders. Starting with O'Neill who wanted 5 teams) and is competent enough to see whats needed.

No, and I get the distinct feeling that I have dodged a bullet...

I did think that as I typed it. Was going to change the wording, then thought, nah, it can work on two levels.

Just noticed that Toni Pulu has moved from the Brumbies to the Western Force.

Interesting move:
January 5, 2021
Former WA rugby union representative Tony Lewis will look to emulate the success of New Zealand’s champion province, the Ta$man Mako, in developing talented young players after being appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Western Force.
Lewis played for the Western Suburbs club (now Wests Scarborough) while living in Perth in the late 1980s, and represented the State in 1987, before later making a successful transition into sporting administration ...
Lewis has been the CEO of the Ta$man Rugby Union for seven years, during which time the Mako has emerged as New Zealand’s champion provincial team and become a production line for Super Rugby and international players. The Mako won back-to-back New Zealand provincial titles in 2019 and 2020 and have appeared in a total of five grand finals, despite being the country’s newest team.
The success of the Mako is widely credited to the strong Academy system established by Lewis when he was appointed Ta$man CEO in 2013 ...
... Forrest: “Tony’s appointment is another key building block for the Force and underlines my drive for Western Australia to have the best Academy system across all of Australian sport, through which we can develop, recruit and retain the best young players, just as the Mako have done so successfully in New Zealand ...
“This program will not only strengthen local club and school rugby, but also help support the success of the Wallabies as the Force looks to produce more international players.

So, the Western Force to open the checkbook (more) and truly create the Force invitational 15?
That's the Ta$man way.
Seriously though, the Ta$man academy is an offshoot of the Crusaders - without that there drawing/holding players, I'm not quite sure that there will be as much "success"

Of course we shall have to wait and see, but my take is a bit different. Close enough know what's developing, but not so close as to be on the Kool-Aid.
Being familiar with four of Australian rugby's, – let's call them "jurisdictions" – I can say that the bar is not particularly high. In an already niche sport, it has fallen from two decades ago. Question is, can it be turned around on the ground?
I say it can ... and think I know where there's a good chance of it.
As a former countrywoman of yours once said: "It won't happen overnight but it will happen...."
