@Nepia paraphrasing 'he's not my type'

    or

    bb8bd297-0970-4ec6-819d-967d89322889-image.png

    in fact:

*“It’s just a change of direction,” Thorn told reporters on Thursday.

“I thought Quade last year... the team struggled, his game management, his attack, his defence (struggled).

“I’m in this role — sometimes you’ve got to make tough decisions.”

Thorn said letting Cooper take up another contract was “the least we could do” for such a loyal club man.

“I played against him as a Crusader, as an All Black. He’s played over 100 games for this club — he’s had success here,” he said.

“He’s a guy who’s served this club really well.

“Respect to the guy, but we’re just going in a different way.”*

The last bit will certainly work for Tahs, and if Tahs drop him Cheika can ignore him - he's already said he won't pick from club rugby

Statements like this, and Phipps, can be used as excuses for not picking him if he has to stay. He's divisive in the team with his 'spreading hate'. RA can't afford to pay him without playing him, I guess, so if the tribunal says he stays, or he appeals in the courts and they say it's unfair dismissal, I reckon RA will have to make a deal. Foolau can then go an play for a team in which homophobia is OK, he'll get a ton of offers.

Of course, maybe it was because THAT contract at the time was about to expire, and THIS one has just commenced.

I think this is more poignant than Drew Mitchell’s attempt at a gotcha moment.

@ACT-Crusader I think that is what Drew was getting at, in a roundabout way. "Hey Izzy, what has changed here?"

I'm happy for him to get a month's pay and shown the door.

The big criticism is that Folau's comments could have a detrimental effect on impressionable young gay people. Fair enough, but if he apparently has such a strong influence, what about all of his young fans? Why is there also no concern that they will suddenly freak out that mummy and daddy will got to hell for drinking beer or wine while watching the rugby. Or that/she will go to hell for not going to church? Should I have a word to my kids about why pappa is together with a woman he isn't married to? Why is it assumed that everyone else will be able to brush it aside as the rantings of an idiot rugby player, but gay people are likely to be driven to suicide? As a young kid I didn't care less about what players said. I just cared about what they did on the field. Even as an adult I generally completely ignore interviews with players unless it's after an amazing win. Most of what they say is boilerplate garbage anyway. I sympathise with the "words matter" argument, but Folau isn't a father, a teacher or small town priest. He's a guy who runs round with a ball.

@Rancid-Schnitzel although TBF, when you were a kid, there was no social media...cos I bet some players from yesteryear woulda put up some classics (both awesome and incredibly dumb)

We also need to figure out the Oz players we want to keep too and ensure they remove anything offensive.

Anyway, I’ll be out for an hour or so while I do some searching of Solomone Kata’s social media.

His father is a preacher so ... He's the son of a preacher man.

And that's Falonk's destiny after footy. The question is how long that will be.

Do they have twitter and Instagram In Ireland? If so we know what we have to do.

    Kit Fawcett springs to mind

The 21-year-old found infamy when he claimed the All Blacks hoped to "score more off the field than on" ahead of his sole tour - to South Africa - in 1976. He played two tests and 11 matches but was never selected for New Zealand again, eventually playing out his career overseas from 1979. No word on how successful he was.

I still wouldn't have given a shit. I was often disappointed when these guys talked because they didn't sound like I felt they should sound (if that makes any sense). But the point still stands. If Folau has such a strong influence why can we easily shrug off all the rest of that nonsense, but not the stuff about gays?

The point is that unless he has a direct and controlling influence over someone's life, his views should just be dismissed as those of a rugby player and a pretty farking dim one at that.

@Rancid-Schnitzel but kids today are exposed to social media and the PC issues that go with it.

TR Jnr (13) passed comment on Folau this week, saying he is a dumb arse...so have to assume he has picked up on it via IG as I havent mentioned it at home or hadnt discussed it with him.

Kids these days know all about trans gender, identifying as something else, being gay etc...shit I barely knew or cared about at that age.

Thats about where I stopped reading his book, I have no idea what spoofing is because his description made no sense.
No mention of Renee Chignall in there either I hear.

The point is that Drew can’t see past his own hand and fails to acknowledge that circumstances have changed since last year, i.e. Izzy was coming off contract and now he is just into a new one. Very very different.

We have two treads going on at the moment, and it's difficult to separate the political aspects of this from the sport.
