@Dan54 some of his elusiveness and the way he ran against the Lions reminded me of Will Jordan without the out and out pace.

James White in his debut season at First five and FB is performing well for Canterbury
He may get a Crusaders contract if he keeps improving.

I thought he looked like a future super player too Chris, looks ok!

He looks pretty cool under pressure his main position is First Five, filling in well at FB as well Dan.

Among the finds of this season, these players were the most prominent IMO :
    Manson (Southland) : incredible pace
Maka (North Harbour) : Very quick and elusive
Saifolau (Waikato) : a big 6 with very good carrying qualities
Brash (Counties) : Exciting loose forward.
Anderson ( Ta$man) : not exactly a newcomer but has raised his game to levels I didn't know he was capable of.

Brash has taken his game to another level this year. He'd be a useful 7 to have in a wider SR squad.

@SouthernMann Hopefully they can rotate. I heard a whisper this was Lio-Willies last season down south .

Late to the party but I’ll find out for you.

@cgrant Agree with most of your picks i would find a place in there for Ollie Mathis even though he limited game time in the NPC
He would be the perfect player for a 6/2 bench split , covers 7 and 2nd five out imo
    What a talent !

@cgrant Agreed. Heard something about Manson is committed to the Utah team for the foreseeable? Im sure the landers would love to snag him

By the numbers: The NPC's best performers of 2024

By the numbers: The NPC's best performers of 2024

New Zealand's NPC pits the various corners of the country's professional rugby community against one another in a storied competition.

With 5 more kgs, he could be an NZ Kwagga Smith.

It did crack me up in that last game with Kini Naholo basically just doing pick n go all game, while the flanker playing on the wing does the in and out to score a try and a decent chip-kick down the sideline too.

I first saw Oli Mathis play when he would have been a Y10 or 11. A good friend of mine, who was a teacher at Hamilton BHS at the time, mentioned this kid was one to watch. He promptly ran over 50 m to beat the outside defence and score. I've seen him score 10+ tries since then using his speed, often up the middle of the field.

Any word on new signings? I hope the Chiefs grab most of the young talent in the region before others do. Looking at Kumeroa, Kolose, Saifoloi, Mathis, A Smith, Tuivailala, Makiri, Lennox.
Maybe good if Mathis has a year in sevens though.

Benet Kumeroa in talks with 3 NZ clubs. Chiefs and Canes are 2 of them, unsure of the third one.

@Yeetyaah i had a quick with Taine Kolesi after the Bop v HB quater final Sam Nocks partner is his sister inlaw really good dude
Got to say hes a sizeable human defintely the biggest hooker running in NZ in terms of body mass imo
he mentioned to me he had played in the loose forwards previously and was also in discussions with the Chiefs

@Yeetyaah You wouldn't think that the Chiefs need any props as they had 7 in the squad this year. Now 6 with Kaivelata going to Japan.

@Bovidae Yeah our props are the weakest part of our forward pack though. Guys like O'Neill and Proffit are walking penalty magnets with luncheon for brain.

@Steven-Harris So many hookers are converted loose forwards. Kolose's big work-on is lineout throwing but he is young.

The Canes have locked up all their props, I know he was in the WTG for the Canes last season so I wonder if it will be for a similar position.
