i'd like to see it, every other loosie seems to need to play more than one position, if it lets us see people like sititi (or got forbid sotutu at 8 whilst keeping our lord and saviour savea on the pitch then i dont see why not

Last time he was seen as a 7, journeyman Matt Todd jumped ahead of him.

We've also seen him dominate as a 7, I remember he played 7 against the Crusaders a couple years ago and probably had the best Super game of his career.

My question re Ardie is - have we already seen the best of him?

The ABs need to start bringing guys like Lakai through now because we don't want another case of Beauden Barrett or Sam Cane where we are giving a senior player a spot in the WC just because of their experience and not so much on form. His form will definitely dip further over the next three years IMO and we can't afford that.

Nothing wrong in trying a few things.
The current trio aren't spinning the wheels, floating the boat ...

Well we better uncover a really big 6 then.

Why? Lakai is around 110kg which is fine for an international 7, and Sititi is around 114kg which is definitely big enough for an 8.

Oliver Haig and Caleb Delany have the potential to come into the fray at 6 over the next couple years. Both around 1.96m and 115kg.

That would be a big loose forward trio compared to what we have now, way more balanced as well than all these 6.5 / 7.5 players we have atm.

Because I don't think 2 out of 3 AB loosies should be shorter than me, and because Jacobson, Blackadder, Dalton - even Cane - are listed as taller than Lakai and Sititi.

its actually starting to feel weird that we havent see him even tried....just because all the other loosies move around....it feels like they all have to be versatile because he wont/cant move...which doesnt feel like a good selection policy

    Because he's fucking dumb

I reckon Ardie playing 8 in the first place was fucking dumb. It only happened because Cane was named captain so was untouchable at 7, and it has fucked our loosie balance for years.
Now Ardie at 8 is untouchable apparently.

It also happened as he was so good off the base of the scrum. He started playing 7 but 8 on attacking scrums then morphed from there. They actually had him at 6 for ages too, with Read 8

Was so good at the base of the scrum - indeed. Has anyone noticed that recently?

@BerniesCorner I don't think you'll get an argument from anyone on that one.

It's the notion that Ardie at seven is part of the solution that I have issues with

Fair enough and really the issue is at 6 and 8. Wipe away favoritism and who are the best trio and where?

Lakai is darn close to McCaw height. He seemed to go alright.

Dade I say it Ardie is a better distributor at 12 than Jordie. Might be a problem with his kicking though.

    OK, solid journeyman then.

Lol those four you've mentioned above aren't exactly great examples of players that get us go forward though, are they?

If Kwagga Smith, Michael Hooper, Siya Kolisi et al can be effective at international level, there is no issue with Lakai and Sititi as a combo, aslong as they are balanced out with a big 6 that can dominate (so not Finau). The ABs need more than just a 'good tackler' at 7, someone that can actually be effective on both sides of the ball.

People saying Lakai is too small obviously haven't seen him in person. The guy is a brick shithouse, thanks to his African and Tongan genes.

Yup, great defender but not a threat at all on attack.

I'm beginning to think it is team tactics so the 6 and 8 can ... do something...

He's pretty much the same size as McCaw but slightly heavier and he's bigger than Ardie. He's also only 21 still so I'd say he will mature even more.

I've no doubt that Lakai will be on the EOYT. It could possibly be the last test for both Cane and TJP in Wellington. Cane brings up his 100th test and TJP plays his last test at home.

Ardie doesn't go to many attacking rucks so you need a 7 and 6 who clean to retain possession. That allows Savea to carry, which is his strength in this team.
