Man of the Match on Debut - Anyone else?

@Kirwan It looks like M Cooper was the main kicker, but Wilson did kick a conversion
That was enough for him to be trusted the following week vs England..
Cooper was injured vs Scotland so couldn't play vs England. His goal kicking would have been much better than Wilson's.
As to MOTM on debut, what about Sivivatu vs Fiji (4 tries) or Carter vs Wales (20 pts)?

Troy Flavell got 3 tries against Tonga in 2000. He must have gone close.
Cully got 3 v Samoa on his debut and 4 v Scotland the following week, coulda been close to back to back MOTM...
Cully had 3 hatricks (Samoa, Wales, Fiji) 4 if you count 4 tries v Scotland, started with a hatrick, and the last match he scored tries in, was also a hatrick.

I'm guessing Savea must have come close with his 3 tries v Ireland. Hard to find records though. During the world cup where they did the MOM via general public vote really irked me but I guess if there is no record then maybe it doesn't matter as much.

Michael Jones springs to mind. Usually the match database on all blacks.com shows MOTM doesn't it?

blacks.com? Is that Trump's black "outreach" website?

Do they even award that officially? I can't for the life of me remember any official ones done so far this year.
Yeah isn't it just something for TV commentators to do at the end of a game? It really doesn't mean much without some consistent process. Might as well give it to the "people" instead.

You are right. I don't think MOTM goes along with the AB ethos these days.
Meanwhile the Wallabies hand out "participation awards" such as Most annoying face-pull.

So Mark Carter actually got a MOM but people still go on about him like he was the worst AB of all time ?
IIRC it was the game where the overwhelming tactic was for Carter to use speed to shut down Noddy Lynagh and it worked. All he had to do (and he did it well) was to race off every scrum and line out straight at Noddy.
-
Fair enough but he is one of the most maligned ABs I can think of which seems harsh all things considered. I guess it was the whole anti Auckland thing which became an anti Cantab thing but Sam Broomhall doesn't get anywhere near as much shit and he never won MOM.
