Springboks vs All Blacks I

Ref shit show aside. Crazy game. Both teams wildly inaccurate which makes the game sort of better (rugby is a way better sport with chaos).
So much good from us, and then so much bad. Score points? Good, immediately invite pressure? Bad.
BB good in attack but kick error kick error.
Wingers good, especially Clarke and Jordan crossing the field to link up with him.
Midfield really good. Reiko's best game this year, Jordie playing to the level we need.
DMac kicked too much ball, which was obviously a plan, but watching him give the defence kittens by running just made that plan even more stupid.
TJ was good. I forgive that mouth penalty because the ref absolutely fucked that up.
Loose forwards? No. Savea is playing crap. Getting bundled in to touch in that first attack was criminal. And he made shit tons of errors. Also, hit a ruck fluffybunny. EB tried his guts out. But he's just not very good. Cane did what cane does. But where was the ruck pressure. The 3 do not compliment each other, and thr A Savea 2-ball lineout was exposed by the much taller Africans.
I didn't know Vaai was that good. Huge game. Looked like the senior lock. Trusted at lineout, at least tried to take on their lineout. Won turnovers. Hit a couple of guys really hard too.
Starting front row were all excellent.
We didn't really get anything out of the bench.South Africa were a bit shit for most of that game, and yes we got stitched up, but we invited top much pressure from bad kicking options. And by fuck can we find a fast flanker to keep the ball in wide channels?

Main change this year is his top end pace is back. People talk about the power game but he’s one of the quicker wingers in NZ. There was a game during RWC where he looked as slow as a tight forward.. must have been the calf issues
He just looks “tidier” too - hands good, balance better. A lock for the 11 jumper for me

Yes and his balance, he falls over only when tackled now. His consistency as well makes him a joy to watch. Best AB 11 at moment for me.

They had called so much back for minor indiscretions that the TMO had picked up on, but then they just let the try stand. And they can't even claim they had to let it stand due to the conversion being taken, as that was rubbed out for not being taken in time! I don't know what to make of that, simultaneous brain farts from the ref and TMO?

15-5 penalty count?
Your side needs better discipline and game management
Ths is exactly what your supporters said to your team after the 2011 QF against Aus, eh
Are you saying the boks lost that game because of dodgy reffing?
Yes I am. Dodgy Officiating.
How can a try be awarded when Bongi Monambi knew he didn't score (look at his disappointment face), the majority of the crowd after seeing the screen knew he didn't score and same with the TMO. At this point the game is a farce and the whole thing is wrong.
I don't want to be a bad sport and the Boks were great in the last 15 minutes but how do South Africans justify the Monambi try. -
Don't know what to feel after that, we played well, the Boks fought tenaciously, but felt like the ref rode them home in the end (glad I didn't stay up and watch as I would have had an angry sleep).
Haven't read the match thread yet to see the rest of the forum's thoughts on the performance, might do so later today, hopefully this one is less constantly big upping favourite player/putting down least favourite player like the last few clusterfuck match threads have been.
Enough to see in that match though to think that maybe the team is starting gel under the messiah.
Clarke is looking good, the Boks look to be Jordan's nemesis team, we couldn't really get him into the game.
I still don't get Ta$man Jesus, busy but ineffective, doesn't suit running in the wide channels like he was at the start of the game, doesn't have the pace or the ball skills for that. Seemingly he has the 6 position locked up going forward under the Tubby Bitch forward coach so hopefully he adds some effective to the busy.
So good not to have to listen to Nisbo commentary, much prefer the Saffas with Marshall chiming in for some comment.
Anyone know what TJ said to the refer to get penalised?
-
That was a great test match.
Yes there were errors from both sides, but they both brought great intensity, some great attack and some crunching defence.
Clarke was great, after losing his starting spot a year or two back, has worked bloody hard at his game and come back a pretty complete winger.
Thought our midfield was excellent, hard straight running with a few subtle variations, kept the Boks guessing.
Overall our backline play flowed waaaay better than it has been, we actually saw our outside backs getting the ball in a bit of space.
Forwards fronted up against the hyped Boks forward pack and bomb squad.
We failed to take a couple of big opportunities late in the game, and the Boks got some fucking dodgy calls go their way, and in the end that was the difference.
On another day we’d be talking about one of the great AB wins in the Republic.
Despite all the over hyping about how good SA are and the negativity around the AB’s, these are two very evenly matched teams.
Looking forward to the next game.

That said, the AB's were up 10 points with not much time left on the clock. They blew it. -

This...man it is so amusing reading back post match, makes you wonder if people actually enjoy watching the game anymore.
And then the whining about the ref, here and SM we are becoming what we've always accused Saffa fans of.
Sadly, most post match comment nowadays is about the ref, not the game.
-
Entertaining game, closer than I expected.
With a good loose forward trio we win that comfortably. Savea was the worst, Cane one dimensional, and Ethan is a one trick pony, makes a lot of tackles, none that dominant, huge engine, etc, etc. He’s like playing with a loosie missing at the ruck, just ineffective.
Cost Clarke a hat trick too not passing when he was free.
Ellis Park might just be my favourite opposition ground, atmosphere was magnificent and anthem was awesome. Kolbe is great to watch too, great winger.
-
A lot of comments about the lack of impact from bench. But in the last 15 mins the things that counted against us were TJP not being at ruck when we on their line after lineout; poor exit kicking; yellow card for repeated infringements prior; some one side refereeing.
-
As much as that was an appalling refereeing performance, I find it hard to dislike a ref who penalises TJP for yapping. If that had happened in his first test instead of (hopefully) his last, rugby would have been better for it - and who knows, with all that extra time not talking he might have even learned to pass.
That's one of the worst most braindead fullback performances I've seen in a long time. BB is well past his BBD. It's a shame Jordan is playing mediocre at present.
Midfield looked lots better, although Lomax perhaps looking the most natural centre we've seen this year. McKenzie pretty good.
Pack largely pretty good.
Lotsa good stuff really. Unfortunately, from a winning position we had zero composure, with the leader of the headless chook panic stuff being our massively experienced senior leadership BB. Fuck my days.
We always struggle with refs who are lenient on the jackle - because we've convinced ourselves that that part of the game isnt important anymore. This reffing performance was more than that though, I haven't seen a try with a clear knock-on slip through the cracks without even a look in ages, let alone in a match this big - that appears very fucking suss. -

The TMO knew it wasn't a try before the next restart. Enquiry please.

It was clearly a try, the ref put his hand in air and indicated such!
Yes as you say, that's a fair beerfaction.
Hey everyone life is back to normal, Dan agrees with the powers that be.
Yep and as normal some don't want to accept the laws of the game, no problem, I expect I am right though
TMO didn't see a probelm, neither did ref, so not sure why there an argument.Besides all else I not convinced he lost it forward, looked straight down to me .

Well that people was what I call a test match. Geez I loved it, ok a slight disappointment at loss, but not enough to make me not love the game!
Thought it was a fair brefection of how game was played out, and would be disappoinetd with anyone blaming ref or individual player. That is how so many AB/Bok game have been played over the years and why I love them so much. Perhaps AB bench players will be a little disappointed, looked caught in headlights a bit, but fellas that's playing at Ellis Park, one of great rugby venues for AB/Bok tests.
Oh and anyone questioning the Boks first try? It was clearly a try, the ref put his hand in air and indicated such!Youve copied and pasted the same post into planet rugby forum you sad prick.
You wont even dignify us with exclusive content.
I don't ever copy and paste a comment, might have said same, but that's ok go for it mate, I put similar on another one where all kiwis were getting called moaning pricks for arguing.
I just realised this might have been your post on PR??
'The match was fixed. Hard to conclude anything else.'
This (your?) posters take on reffing performance. on the ref FFS, just embarassing to me. -
@reprobate said in Springboks vs All Blacks I:
Also should say: the Saffa 10 looks a gem, and if they can cut out the errors they have some great potential. It was fucking great to see so few box kicks in a game against SA, and despite the result it was a good watch.
Wonderful kicker and looks like he has an all round game. Potential star player.
