Interesting that Joe Schmidt didn’t fancy working for Raz.

No, Schmidt didn't want to be involved wioth talk with a potential replacement of his current boss, he thought that was lacking loyalty

Yeah he was pants. But the whole team was. The second half was a non event. Surely he is to be given more of a chance than that?

Like full test week prep knowing he is the 15.

The whole back line was reshuffled when Jordan moved to 15. Rieko went to the wing.

They need time in the saddle to get the comms right. The back 3 working the pendulum etc.

I don't know if it was messaging or philosophy but the attack for the Blues looked disjointed and lethargic. The difference in style and outcome from one year under Vern speaks volumes.

There were signs of the same aimless attack in the ABs that we saw in the Blues under McDonald so can't say I'm too surprised by this. Something wasn't quite gelling behind the scenes. I guess it explains Razor's initial comments after the Pumas loss of disjointed play.

McDonald has been a head coach since the last time they worked, so that can change a lot of a dynamic.

that's exactly it according to Razor, did you just read the article?

He said he and MacDonald “hadn’t foreseen’’ any potential differences before the coaching team was formed, otherwise “we wouldn’t probably have gone down that line”.

“But as we got into the coaching we realised our philosophies and just the way we click and see the game is a little bit different now.

“Obviously being a head coach for a long period of time, you see things differently.”

“As we started getting hands-on, things have just differed."

understandable, 8 years since they last coached together.

Leon was on standby for the gig as far back as April last year.

He also agreed to assistant role under Jamie Joseph last year according to NZ Herald, was going to be coaching the AB backs with Brown on attack if Razor didn't get the job in 2023, now Leon's probably lamenting Joseph not getting the job over Razor?

It’s very debatable whether Rangi and Joseph’s philosophies would’ve meshed also. The only thing I think that would’ve been in Rangi’s favour with Joseph as opposed to Razor, Joseph has been away from the NZ rugby scene for a while and Rangi’s familiarity with players and current Super structures would’ve been relied on.

Nope his IQ from the back is not there, he's a great winger that's all we need. A fullback type winger and a power winger (Clarke)

@Machpants has it covered. When he's actually cemented himself as a wing that has vision outside himself then I'd be comfortable with him at fullback. Or against Fiji.

Unlike your best mate Foster who had changes forced upon him long after it was apparent from both player feedback and the fuckin results that his assistants sucked.

So Robertson sacked McDonald because of poor results and player feedback?

    Has that been confirmed?

Nope. When asked why, Razor preferred to focus on the fact that Leon was a top bloke, and that they just didn't click. Pretty classy response

I wonder if the AB performance during Argie test 1 was a major reason for this.

    What???
    I never said that.
I said Razor is being proactive, whereas Foster wasn't.

    I never said that.

I never said you did. I simply asked if it had been confirmed that Robertson was actually or really being proactive and sacked McDonald for poor results and player feedback

I said Razor is being proactive, whereas Foster wasn't.

So has it been confirmed McDonald was sacked by Robertson? From what I've read it was a difference in approach, a mutual agreement to depart and nothing to do with poor results and player feedback - though happy to be corrected.

Two things I'm curious about this.

    1. The timing. Why didn't MacDonald stay on until the end of the SA tour or the Rugby Championship?

    2. We've only so far heard the NZR and Scott Robinson version of events. It would interesting to hear from Leon MacDonald himself about why he quit.
