The distance which separates the Women's BMX and Women's skateboard is absolutely massive

Then the blokes kick it up a million notches

    Great BMX finals

An absolutely awesome Silver for Hamish Wilde and he deserves the Coubertin Medal for his sportsmanship at the end there.

Also a word for Alex Yee whose only fault in life is not being a Kiwi.

    Watching the women's Trap shooting

First gold medal for Guatemala and new Olympics record

Why the fuck is there a constant barrage of dance music whilst the ladies are shooting?

    Madness. And so annoying.

Did you see some shooters earlier in the week, they wore what looked like leather motorcycle style outfits in the colours of their respective countries during competition. Weird

The British guy had a huge last ride and was a little unlucky not to get a higher score. But the Argentinian got massive air.

Had the volleyball on for a bit yesterday and by fuck it was annoying, as soon as a point was done some shit pop/dance music would break out a millisecond later and drown everything, then not stop until just as the server hit the ball.

Eden park DJ seems to have got an Olympics gig.

Coverage of that Triathlon was shit.

Why were we getting saturation coverage of the Frogs with no coverage of the leader showing split to second changing.

Agree, the most dramatic part of that race wasn't really covered and the commentators had no idea Yee was closing the gap until he was about to go past Wilde.

It was a great race though, fitting for an Olympics and Wilde definitely didn't blow it - Yee surged and won it. Wilde knew he couldn't run alongside Yee and hope to beat him at the end and he made Yee suffer in those early kms. The problem was that he wounded him but couldn't finish him off and the gap stuck at around 15 seconds.

We'll probably never know the answer but I do wonder if Yee really thought he could catch Wilde and that if he had been well clear in 2nd, he may have settled for it. But Bergere kicked hard to try to catch Yee and that looked to be the main battle but when Yee responded, suddenly both of them closed fast on Wilde who had nothing left in the tank.

my mate (who did big triathlons) reckons chasing is easier than defending on the run. So there's that, too.

@nzzp yeah I imagine if you are chasing and can see them ahead, see if they are starting to falter and maintaining pace is easier than being ahead and not really being able to see if they are gaining, slowing etc without turning to check.

Either way, Wilde said he gave everything and was spent, massive effort.

Marchand wins the 200m Breaststroke with another OR

Unbelievable to win 2 golds in the same session

Unbelievable that it was butterfly and breaststroke. That is unprecedented.

I agree. The Aussie comms spent 10 minutes crowning Wilde, then all of a sudden Yee was leading and they had no idea it was happening.

But to be fair to them I reckon they were taking the IOC feed, which gave them no splits, no margin, no overhead tracking shot in the key period of the race. So they could only judge it off the pictures which were pretty misleading at times.

There was a very brief scary moment where I wondered if the Frenchman might also catch up to him too.
