Maybe RM if he returns
Back at the Crusaders when he returns.
Would be cool if he followed Ardie to MP. Has the Crusaders actually been confirmed? Wouldn’t be surprised if he did the same thing. He’s made enough impact at the Saders.
Yeah he is coming back to the Crusaders it looks like in 2026 he wants to be back with Family in CHCH then.
Would be awesome to see him join Moana but that does make sense. He will be 32 by then so y****ou’d think Crusaders would have their plan B in place by the time Mo’unga returns. Can’t put all their eggs into one basket at that age.
I would hope they do.

Hurricanes say the roster is oretty much full for next year, and are close to signing a 10 to replace Morgan. https://www.thepost.co.nz/sport/350350577/hurricanes-factor-ardie-saveas-second-sabbatical-clause-exit-moana-pasifika

I wonder if the new 10 is someone we haven't had before or if they are in talks with Jackson Garden-Bachop. I really hope it's a new 10 because we know JGB is a fairly limited player (similar to Cameron). I wonder if they are looking offshore as I can't think of many spare 10s running around New Zealand that would fit the bill.

In a podcast released earlier today Ardie Savea was ready to sign on the dotted line for the Canes after the World Cup. Then his bro was released from the Canes (rightfully so) and that made him question his loyalty to the Canes and the fact he felt he wasn't specifically valued at the Canes.
Whether he denies it or not, Julian leaving is an obvious reason why he's gone to MP even if he tries to state otherwise. Doesn't he realise he's in a results driven business and players (no matter their reputation or loyalty) will be released if they aren't good enough. Good on him for doing what he thinks is right but I think it's a little precious of him to hold anything against the Canes for trying to improve their performance. It's a shame though because I think he probably would have felt more inclusive playing under Laidlaw than he would have playing under the limited Holland.
In saying all this, I think the Hurricanes CEO Avan Lee has a bit to answer for. You'd think for any business meeting you would invite Ardie's wife as part of that conversation. Apparently she was never brought in on any conversations with the ABs or Canes so maybe re-thinking about how he goes about things in terms of dealing with players is something he needs to work on.

@Canes4life I’m hearing the offer is for Lincoln McClutchie but he is on the fence about returning to Super Rugby

Julian was released by the Hurricanes well before the World Cup so either Ardie has got his timings wrong or he's telling fibs.
But also, why would you bring Ardie's wife into any conversations? That's not normal in any business environment, even in pro sport. Given he negotiated his last deal himself, maybe he should've told Avan Lee that he wanted his wife involved.

Are you married mate??? Let's not forget, BB might still be a Cane if his missus didn't want to live in AKL

Remember Julian was shitty with the process not necessarily the decision
"I was pretty pissed off, to be honest, but that's rugby and they've got a job to do," he said. "Just the process... they didn't let me know until later on and that's the biggest thing." The Hurricanes previously admitted discussions were difficult and the change in coaching group added a complication
We never got more details than that.
Maybe they indicated he would get re-signed and Julian turned down other offers in the meantime? We don't know.. but it seems clear from the quote above that it wasn't just about missing out
-
Seems very messy, and by the sounds of it, inevitable after whatever happened with Julian.
Sad way for Ardie to end his Canes career. He's a nailed on starter in the 7 jersey for the all time Canes 15 and a title winner, so leaves a legacy like few others.
You'd think if he stuck around until 27 he'd have a good shot at adding another title too, so a shame we won't see that play out.

She's certainly never been present at any of my job interviews/pay negotiations...

Lincoln is hardly what they desperately need. That is an AB or near quality 1st 5 who is out number 1. Cameron is barely good enough to start at super rugby level. But JGB or LM aren't any better
Its a weakness that will cost us titles if it isn't fixed. Maybe Love needs to be tried at 1st to see how he goes

Done deal as I understand it.

So a return in 2026 instead of 2027?
A return of a 32 year old First Five who’s biggest asset is his acceleration, speed and agility. 2026 is going to be an interesting season in when it comes to the 10 jersey!
Also, whoever knows how to move convos, probably worth moving to Crusaders thread.

Whatever his reasons, he's gone. If he was getting all precious about his brother's situation it's human, but it's part of the business. I seem to recall a while back the talk that Julian's wife was tough to deal with, if that's the case I'm sure they gave as good as they got during negotiations. Ardie gave us his best and now it's time for the new guard to go on with how they did last season
-
I guess he wants to play with his brother and not against him.
Would be interesting if MP drop Julian.
I'm not that upset about him leaving, with his sabbatical, he seems to be always coming and going, just causing disruption.
Hopefully Brayden Iose returns to early 2024 form. -
I'd laugh if Moana also felt Julian wasn't up to it anymore and decided to not play him much next season. Would Ardie move to another franchise if that was the case? I just think the whole sour grapes thing is a little over the top but in saying that I think the Canes will be a better team overall with him leaving. I feel like we were heavily reliant on him when he was with us, whereas this year certain players i.e. Aumua, Proctor were encouraged to step into more senior roles and I think as a collective we played much better. It's no surprise that Aumua and Proctor then made the ABs off the back of being vice captains and holding more of a voice within the Canes.
