@MN5 Having recently arrived in a new city - it's an embarrassingly reassuring image to come across, and think... "Oh, yeah, used to have friends.... to say inane shit like that".
I’m the guy on the right. Apparently I said that numerous times at the Xmas function a few years ago. Mainly to people whose names I couldn’t remember which was basically everyone.
I’m really pleased this meme has generated so much discussion.

@MN5 I'm drunk, alone, bored, in a new country/city, sitting at a kitchen counter on an op-shop chair because it's my only piece of furniture. This is my desperate attempt at reaching out for the slightest hints of community, before I resort to watching an overly violent parody of superhero shit, or some politics-with-dragons.

@voodoo yeah, fair cop.
I'm kinda still in the phase of settling in.
To be fair, I'm drunk because I've been at 3 craft breweries this evening.
And already have 1 of those nodding at me when I enter, and several other "dive bars" greeting me by name. -

I'd like to think so, but in seppo-land, with the whole "tipping culture" - I suspect it's a lot easier.
And the whole "sitting at the bar" thing.
One of the bars I refer to - greeted me by name on my third visit. And those visits were spread over a couple of weeks.
