The story of Mosley is a classic story of making your own luck.

He's been lucky in later life that the existing members of FNM have held no hard feelings. He lost his shit just as the band was starting to break out and thus missed out on the best years. Gould & Bottum are the driving force of that band and always have been. Gould is one of, if not, the most innovative and respected bass players to exist. Find any decent bass player in a band and they will all say influenced by Gould, without exception. Bottum is the glue that runs the whole show.

Incidentally, FNM re-released We Care Alot earlier this week which has some new mixes.
I was never really big into Mosley era FNM but it was cool watching them live stream their Mosley reunion the other day over Facebook. Lots of complaints from Patton era fans in the feed though. Pretty cool seeing selfies of Patton and Mosley together.
I've never really considered Gould a great bass player but I appreciate what he does do very much and he's one of my favourites.
I consider him a fantastic song writer though and its his understanding of tension and release that's such a key part of FNMs sound.

This came on youtube after a D.O.C song I was listening to. Had literally never heard of this song until now. MC Ren, Eazy E, Dr Dre, Digital Underground, Ice T, Tone Loc and other West Coast rappers. The thing I really dig about this track and N.W.A tracks of the same era is the funky bass line.

<a class="bbc_url" href="

Mosely era FNM did a cool song called "Annes Song" so would have loved to see Patton and the boys do to that what they did to 'We Care A Lot" ( ie make an awesome song EVEN better ).

[media]

I have heard Gould is a real driver in the band sounding as good and as diverse as they do.

True, Martin could shred with the best of them if he got a chance.

Goulds bassline in that very cool as well.
-

In funny stuff: because the album is by a Russian chap, some of the titles haven't come across quite soundly in English e.g. the track above is on the album as

"Not Enough of Air"

Along with some others like "Remembering Of Home" and "Don't Afraid!"
-

Just when you thought you were safe from Michael Bolotin style vocals, here's something nearly as bad:

Yes. Yes they are. Only bad thing about them is the lead singer gets really bad sweat patches and is constantly brushing his hair out of his eyes.

They did some genuinely cool shit back in the day.
-

I hadn't heard of it till seeing that on Facebook. It's a hammered dulcimer: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammered_dulcimer -

Primus/FNM were in my wheelhouse when living in SF around 91, fun nights out there, totally thrashed them to death though.

watch out for the Frizzle Fry LP reissues though, they're mixed so low they're basically fucking inaudible.

being an indie snob dickhead I always lumped them in with that Duran Duran era poppy bullshit but if you've got a top shit sound system, and a tiny wee mountain gorilla of a turntable cartridge, holy shit, watch out, that Big Chair lp was recorded in heaven.

another "guilty pleasure" from that era is A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS. yes, you can have your Austin Powers laughs, fine, go on, I dont give a shit

currently on, ISIS last one, "wavering radiance", more boring metal I keep coming back to. Split up in 2010 and then oops, slight name reappropriation, haha, wondering how their t-shirt sales have been going since then

I'd add Joe Jackson, Go West and Style Council to the list of "80s stuff that should be shit but is actually good"

You can't beat Power Station though, good old Robert Palmer rocking out in a suit like he's just come back from a business meeting ( and they had the guitarist and bassist from Duran Duran too of course, another to add to the above list. )

"I ran" is my favourite "80s" song. It's got everything you want in an 80s pop track, and when you add the video, it's a work of art.

Fuck i love Primus.

Back to TFF, Shout is a massive track, crank that shit up.
