I assume that Thompson is leaving? Or injured? Is that why we haven't seen him for the Chiefs?

I've no idea if the NRL rumours are true, but yeah, he hasn't played much. Thompson will be in the 23 next week and in the Māori squad too (with Eklund).

Beauden Barrett played his first game of club rugby in 14 years for Coastal. Does anyone know if he came on to play First Five or Fullback?

    ...

Played ten in Japan, mostly, as far as I can gather

I find it interesting because he has so much more upside than Slater.

I know Thompson also has issues with throwing but he is a much bigger body.

It's a strange one to me.

Agree. I'm puzzled as well. Slater has throwing issues too - the Chiefs didn't win any of his first 3 lineout throws.

    No hobbits at hooker.

    Beaten to the punch! 🙂

I was waiting to write that if you wanted someone to take a ring to Mordor, Ricky would be the first man on your list....

TBH he may well be the best option - at least he can do his core roles effectively.

So RR, Thompson and the guy that has had opportunities handed too him but wasn’t able to perform

There must be other possibilities? The better Bell?

I reckon Jack Taylor is the best "prospect" of the young fellas I've seen this year. Not sure why Bell is preferred at the Highlanders really.

I'd put those internet stats to the Pepsi challenge!

I saw Jeff Wilson looking 3-4 inches taller than Ricky and that was including their hair! 🙂

Jeepers, Goldie isn’t the tallest fellow going around either. I might have to stand corrected.

Riccitelli must go to the same measuring school as Daniel Braid.

    George Bell

It’s good bias test for the new coach. The worst throwing hooker whose contact work was abysmal.

    Do performances matter?

Agree re throwing but didn't notice his contact work was abysmal. Very disappointing season for sure. Weird because he has been better and was a standout in the under age stuff. I liken him to Hotham, except he has yet to show he might have a future at Super level.

I hear the plan is to bring some younger players in to camp to train at times looking to future selections, keeping them up to speed.
A lot like the Crusaders did under Razor.

Makes sense with the likelihood that the ABs will be calling on a raft of players with the tough schedule ahead.

Proctor has done enough all season to justify selection as the fourth midfielder but was struggling towards the end of the game

    The semi?

I thought he was one of the best Canes in the semi. Although he was a bit hurt towards the end

Yeah I meant struggling with an injury, not struggling with the game itself!

Meg is picking TJP, Christie and Ratima as his halfbacks (in that order from starter).

Colour me shock that Meg picks a bigger-sized semi-forward halfback with a lumbering pass and a snappy mouth!

    Wouldn't surprise me.

The guys who start the first test of the season won't be the same guys who start the last - even if everyone was to stay fit. They'll ease some in and ease some out.

Leon said an 18 forward - 14 back split.
