Interesting there have been no leaks. Sam Cane was clearly anointed - who Razor picks is a genuine mystery!

Could we see Jordie Barrett as captain??? He's likely to be the 12 going forward under Razor, plays 80mins, will go through to 2027, he's been captain for the Canes more often even with others in there this year.

    No. Fuck no.

Dumb as a box of rocks. Big game bottler.

    No.

I believe one of @george33 takes was that Dalton would be AB captain.

Chris said similar but then took it back later

They both said the Robertson met with Papali'i in April last year. A couple of weeks after he got the job

If that was the case, by extension I expect DP would be a lock for one of the lose forward starting places

    I'm starting to wonder if

Dalton - only if Razor rates his game.

think it was 2022 when Dalton looked for all money future AB captain, his leadership in the blues was evident, more so when he wasnt there.

But the argument is less strong now, although I expect he would certainly grow into it.

There was an article where Dalton attributed a lot of his growth and development as a leader that year to Schmidt, who was an assistant in 2022.

Nah this perception of him is unfair, he made those blunders as Hansen decided it would be a good idea to throw an underdeveloped 196cm tall 19 year old outside back into the test arena before he'd even had time to grow into his body and understand his own strengths.

He was 20 at the 2019 World Cup when he famously offloaded into Ta'avao's forehead to sew the game up for the poms, look why single out Jordie, as Ardie's woeful reading of the game and decision making as captain for the All Blacks and Canes would have to rule him out wouldn't it?

@ruggabee Ardie improved immensely last year as captain. I remember the majority on here wanted him to stay captain but obviously Cane took over again.

In fact, did Ardie lose a game as captain last year? His winning percentage was way higher than Canes wasn’t it?

@Canes4life I really don't want either of them in the ABs. If Roigard was available then I definitely wouldn't have either. Thought Perenara's passing and control were rather poor tonight. Back to the bad old days for him.

@Tim fair, I felt both halves were messy tonight, but I felt that was the nature of the game with both teams going so hard at the breakdown. Perenara has shown awesome form this year that will get him selected again. Roigard aside, he’s defs one of the top three halfbacks in the country atm IMO.

    Let's talk exits.

A frequently expressed sentiment on the forum is that posters would love to see an another option, than the 10, with a big boot who can reliably clear long and deep from the 22. I certainly feel that way.

Who are the best options in the country to fill that role? Who are the best backs at clearing in each position?

    9 Roigard
    10 McKenzie
    11 Stevenson
    12 J Barrett
    13 ?
    14 Jordan
    15 Sullivan

Of those, Roigard, Jordan, and Sullivan are injured, McKenzie's distance and form are well down this year, and Stevenson is very out of form and is kicking less. (Parsons talked mid-week about how the Chiefs are kicking a lot less this season, and it seems they are not kicking very well when they choose to.) Jordie Barrett seems to seldom kick from the back now.

So what options does that leave?

Havili and Clarke can both kick the ball pretty far. Havili doesn't look like playing much, and is prone to being charged down. Clarke doesn't kick much.

I mean, Savea's win percentage was higher, but that's hardly a fair measure. Cane captained in all five of the All Blacks' tough Tests (SA 1, SA 2, France, Ireland, SA 3) and they won two and lost three. Savea wasn't asked to be captain in any of the tough games.

You're missing two players even if you have both Numia and Williams. 32 man squad and you've named 30. A halfback and a lock I imagine.

    He did.
I'd prefer TWO FUCKIN HANDS when running in tries though.
