Henry Nicholls got a double ton too. Against a better team.

Henry Nicholls got an extended run in the side.

I'm asking for a decent run in the side for Ravindra not to hinge everything on the second innings.

Good point, I forget we don’t have world class batsmen on a production line. I might be expecting too much too soon.

We don't have a production line of seamers either, we can't afford to lose as many bowlers to stress fractures as we do

Don’t forget our keeper who can’t bat any more.

The good news is our spin options are as good as they’ve ever been !!!

Don't discount the quality of the Aussie attack. Even our best performed bats in recent times, Kane and can't miss Mitch Jr have looked bang average. Apart from Ravindra's first test score, we've had little to cheer about when it comes to our batting

Poor old Glenn Phillips, takes a five for and everyone forgets his batting.

I've always thought players should get at least 18 months (so two home summers and a few overseas tours) to figure it out. The step from NZ domestic to international is huge. I'd be disappointed if we dropped Ravindra before the next home summer. Phillips too, I think he's shown he has the tools, so he deserves a decent shot to show he can figure out how to use them.

That’s a fair call and perhaps I’m of the 2020/2021 Black Caps mindset where the team was settled and EVERYONE was performing. Pretty much no dead wood. Conway with a great start, Latham still performing, KW being KW, Taylor creaking but deserving a final hurrah, Nicholls in much better form, CDGH overachieving, Watling ever reliable and the four seamers on top of their games.

    Distant memories now 😞

Knocked the top off now. Once we roll the bowlers we'll get in and bat in the best conditions of the test.

Looking like redemption for a an uncharacteristic poor first test.

I mean, tbh, is this even a conversation anyone is having?

I'd be disappointed if John Travolta and the scientologists held a coup and inserted Travolta as dictator of Tuvalu.

Phillips is turning into our best spinner. That ball turned quite a bit, which is both a worry and a good thing.

And our best catcher.... What a superb catch to rob Manus of a ton, and Timmee finally gets a wicket

he's the reverse Marnus - so many dropped catches and missed chances off his bowling that are now reverting to mean.

Damn GP though, what a player. Best fielder, arguably best spinner and a decent batsman. Love it.

Hohoho! Marnus to find his form now and make a hundred. Nothing more Australian or guaranteed than that! 🙂

    Close! 🙂

I just wish we would stop putting Blundell before him in the order, it's totally weird decision that I don't understand. The same applied to when Bracewell was in the team.

It's like the selectors are trying to pigeonhole them into being allrounders, when they should be in the team as batsmen first, spin bowlers second.

    Phillips enthusiasm is excellent too.

….and continues to improve as a bowling option

    Henry gets a 7fer.

    Shot son.

I hope our top order can support the bowlers and actually make a game of this

Pretty average umpiring to turn that last LBW down. That was as plumb as they get.

Batsmen need to buckle down and score some runs. They can bat for over 7 sessions if they want to. Pitch should be at its best this afternoon and tomorrow.

The bowling average gap between Henry and Southee is now down to 2 runs (having been 11 at start of season).

Southee's career average will almost inevitably tick over 30 next innings. It is currently 29.98

Kuggelejeijn getting 6 overs in the first innings. What a pointless selection. This team is absolutely rudderless.

The radio commentators mentioned him being there as ‘batting insurance’

…..apparently he barely made it out to the middle in time and copped some sledging from Australia before being out first ball.
