@george33 Yes they should be in the comp. Will be good to have another competitive side.

@African-Monkey think Brumbies are also battling to stay alive, bit sad really for us and them

@george33 Interesting. I guess there has been talk about them over the years struggling off the field.

@Chris having the Jaguares in the comp makes it all disjointed again though. I don't know how I feel about it. I'd rather the Rebels survive tbh even though I don't think Aus should have more than 4 teams.

For me I like the idea it brings a stronger team to the comp going to Argentina to play is good for our players something different.

id be happy to see them again, i think there are lots of examples where new teams just dont improve (italy, rebels et al)....but the Jags genuinely seemed the exception. They probably wont come back at the same quality but hopefully they get back to where they were in their last season

Does the competition need to change names again if the Jaguares join again?

I wouldn't really consider Argentina part of the Pacific.

I understand the chat about Jaguares etc, just feels like we kicking over Rebels carcass before it dead though.

@Dan54 ...it might not be dead yet but think its jumped out of a plane without a parachute....think it will take a miracle and its not like RA is flush with the kind of cash to save it....and if they did it would be a bad decision because the rebels have proven Melbourne wont back a rugby team at that level

Aust must 100% reduce their team numbers.

But I don't agree with bringing back the Jaguares. The travel and time difference are things I certainly don't miss now. I would just go with 11 teams and see what can be done with Japan later on

Flight time NZ to Argintina 12+ hours
Flight time Perth to Argintina 16+ hours

i feel that there are three aspects...

    1. high quality
    2. large enough to avoid things feeling repetitive
    3. convenient (not too much travel, good tv times)

...and you can't have all three

I think we can have a smaller competitive comp with maybe 3 aussie teams and 5 (maybe even 4 as we often have one team near the bottom) based in the PI/aus/NZ...but things might get stale

or we can a larger comp, maybe 7- NZ teams 4-5 aussies =, maybe drua....will be good times and comp big enough...but talent has to spread out

or we welcome back teams like the jags instead of the rebels....an improvement in quality (arg players and the good rebels go to other aussie teams)...comp still ok size...but more travel

....i dont think we can have all three

The theory in these parts is RA is deliberately trying to make Brumbies have to give up their licence so they can take over it and possibly move it to another location.

@antipodean yeah, i'd heard something along those lines too....i dont think it was on here

also heard about merging the rebels and brumbies so they claim they havent abandoned melbourne even if its only for a couple of games a year

the brumbies are a sad situation because they were/are pretty successful, a couple of championships back in the day and few more finals...

I pretty relaxed on whether Jags come back or not. Can see the reason for it (like Drua etc)good for game in Argentina, and personally find the times of games there were good , 9-10 in NZ on a Sunday. Also can see drawbacks . travel etc. Only thing I know is whatever id decided I will shrug shoulders and go along with it, and plenty of others will be against it.

It's a shame that the Sun Wolves never really worked out.

The Super Round is a crap idea, but holding it in an AFL/League city with few Rugby fans is a really spectacularly crap idea.

@sparky yeah hopefully they scrap it next year. We hardly get to watch the Canes early in the season because they are always on the road, would have loved a home game against the Reds this weekend.
