Kane Williams has gone from our greatest batsmen to one of test history’s best batsmen
One amazing stat is he’s now scored 8 centuries in a row once passing 50. Only Bradman has done better at 12. BradmanHe really is. One more test ton will equal Alastair Cook. Another will equal Brian Lara, Mahela Jayawardene, Sunil Gavaskar and Younis Khan.
Far less test than them too.
Younis Khan had a hell of a record but he’s not spoken of in that top bracket very often

Am glad we were first to win the Tangiwai Shield, it's such an amazing story.

Great to finally have a series win over the Proteas - congratulations to the Black Caps!
It's good to have a genuine great in the batting ranks. Assuming Kane plays both tests against Oz, the second test in Christchurch will be his 100th test - might have to pop along for a day to see the great man in action.
If he plays and bats all 4 innings and keeps to his average, he will move into the top 20 runscorers of all time - he is currently 25th. If he continues his purple patch, he may pass 9,000 runs in which case he would be 3rd= fastest to do so. At his current average, he will be 4th= fastest.

I really enjoyed watching Kane bat today.
What sets him apart for me is when he survives a close call, or a tough over or two, or even a tough hour or two, you can literally see him working out in his head how he’s going to combat what he’s up against.
For instance there was a period today, I think he might have been on 30 odd, facing Paterson I think, he almost chipped two straight to short mid on in the same over, you could see him figuring out how he needed to adjust. Sure enough he didn’t do that again.
What a privilege to watch him play.

Stayed up watching KW to the wee hours of the morning.
For me test cricket is awesome , T20 leaves me cold.
Was mightily impressed w the SA bowling early on.
KW is the Richie McCaw of cricket. -

Francis is a passionate bofin, love it..couple of other interesting ones
The 152 run stand between Williamson & Young is easily the highest unbroken 4th wicket partnership to win a test for NZ. (It was only NZ's fourth seven wicket win). The other unbroken 4th wicket stands stands were 39, 15 and 11 #NZvSA
A few tables to update...
Playing in most test winning sides for NZ
44 Ross Taylor
44 Tim Southee
43 Kane Williamson
Southee has taken at least one wicket in every NZ test win that he's played in #NZvSAThat last stat seems hardly notable? Our front line opening bowler getting one wicket per match?
Quick search says so did Boult, so did Chris Martin, so has Henry - can't be bothered looking at any others. -

I got given one of those cricket nerd books in the early 2000s about NZs first fifty test wins. They got the 50th in the early 2000s. The team has more than doubled that since then.
Probably spoken enough about KW for now.
Taylor was a fantastic player in a brilliant era.
Southee is on the decline but he has had some terrific moments.
Worth noting that the immortal Paddles only led us to victory 22 times in comparison !
Wow, genuinely shocked at that. I thought late 30s would have been about right.
I think the point worth noting there is while Paddles is still our best player ever ( maybe because a legendary all rounder will always trump a legendary specialist ) the efforts of the others in unison yielded better results….
Then of course Paddles didn’t really have many if any minnows in his day to beat up on it must be said.

We're not going to have Big Kyle for Australia - or anyone else - until next summer.

Pretty major loss.

On Conway, his technical issues are one of the awkward joys of cricket. By the time TSFers and Junior parents are talking about things, there's no way that he is blind to it. If only the fixes were always quick (even I'd have been a decent batter )
They can be quick with the resources Conway has but something is holding him back.
Maybe it is other issues but there is to much repeats for me to understand why there is no correction at all, not even a forward press or back foot movement to get his feet moving to get into a better balanced position.
No correction of that front foot placement nothing just same every innings so same results. So same dismissals always off balance Lbw,Snicked off or caught in the covers or gully.

Really frustrating. I watched his whole innings and he looked good getting to 17 before disaster struck.

Very frustrating it is like there is a mental block and he reverts back to staying cast on the crease.
I hope he/they get it right NZ needs him firing.
