Is Fergus Burke really next in line? He's so nondescript that I've been muddling him up with Brett Cameron in my head while reading this thread - until just now when I clicked they're different.
I think that's fair though. Neither are stand up and look at me 10s (thus far).
I think Cameron came back from Japan better than he left, I'm interested to see what he can do in Super rugby this year.
Burke, jury still out but he is at the right team to get a very fucking good chance, so I like his chances with Razor - unless Havili ends up at 10.
-
@Chris You don't have to be a mind reader to realise that all this hinting at changes in eligibility rules is about selecting Richie. He's the only player that Razor has publicly stated that he's disappointed is leaving. The rest of the overseas guys are way past their prime or only rated by one member of the coaching team.
It's actually a bit worrying, bc Mounga is just a good international 10 not a great one like say DC. Razor has 4 years to select and develop one or two new 10s. He should just get on with that.
-
@Nepia I get what you mean. It seems that for the last 4 years super rugby coaches have opted for rather ordinary options at 10 (when they have more exciting candidates or guys with greater potential in their squad or even wider training groups). It seems like no one wants to take a punt on anyone not 100% unspectacular.

I think it could be someone else,
Another poster a little while back who has a strong connection to Razor mentioned a lock might not be done for the next WC and he is pretty on to what he posts. -

The only other player that could be in the group of ‘want haves’ is Leicester, and again, if he is the savior we are well fucked.
Pick Dmac, Beauden, Perofeta, Cameron, or Burke or Ioane. A combination of three of them puts him well in contention with other international teams post a WC.
As surf Jesus coach, he has plenty of talent.
Maaaaaaybe he isn’t quite so surfy? Or so Jesusy? Or so?
And maybe he knows it now that he knows that he doesn’t automatically have the best spine in the competition.
-
@gt12 Agree on most everything you wrote (maybe not the name Beauden).
I'll add another question: What if Razor was planning to unveil The Cantablacks 2.0 as his first squad, but without Richie he's going down a more balanced route? Ok, I'm just joking here.
Still, it might just be "wanting to work with players he knows" initially. Anyone know any non-crusaders in their mid-20s that Razor coached at u-19 level?

Getting BBBR back to sign on with NZ rugby was the NZRU's problem.
And, honestly, is he the lock to take us to 2027?
He's not young now, so again, if we are going to break up everything for a player - is he that player looking to 2027?
-
@Punch_up said in All Blacks 2024 - looking forward:
@Chris I guess that could be true. I just think they should renew their squad a bit more instead of luring older players back.
Not disagreeing with you on that, I am not a fan of bringing players back in to the AB's from overseas.
Pick them from our comps is what I want to see still happening. -

I am not a Fan of it time to move on,We should keep the status quo pick players from our competition and keep them strong.
-
@chchfanatic I can see the need for Whitelock or Retallick, but why bother with Leicester Fainga'anuku?
-
I dont think it’s a great look for Robertson to be talking about picking overseas players when we haven’t even started a domestic season yet.
I know he was asked a question but ‘no comment’ would have been appropriate on this one.
You took the job based on the criteria of picking Nz based players only. Just do the job on that basis.
He will be asked this at every press conference going forward, especially if we lose some games.
I’m not sure the board are going to be thrilled with these headlines.
Apart from that, looking forward to seeing how his team shape up this year. Lot of rugby to be played before then though.

Sam Whitelock?
Holy fuck, so @chchfanatic Razor's plan is to turn us into Wales?

Coaching Jesus's lose games? Not going to happen......
But seriously, I'll be pissed off if he brings it up time and again, or uses it as an excuse for a loss.
