Used to hate Travis Head, now think I’d like to have a beer with him. Even Warner! Reality
I'd say yes to the former, but have been reliably informed the latter is a fluffybunny.
Warner? A fluffybunny? Well colour me shocked

reading about the reactions makes this even better. Stay classy India.
Looking at the positives - beyond the win of course - maybe scam callers will take the day off to riot?

I've changed my mind several times on whether India losing or winning the CWC would have been better/worse for the future of ODI cricket.
I had initially been thinking that it would be best if they won, on the grounds that they'd then be happy with the format and the BCCI/ICC would keep it.
Alternative is that they may have just locked the trophy up in the cabinet for ever had they won, so...?
Who knows, but I guess the BCCI and the Mark Nicholas's of the cricketing world will soon tell us...

If it means India keeps losing, I'll accept Oz winning the next 400 CWCs.

I honestly thought that was the way I felt.
Then I saw them all running out gleefully to the centre of the pitch after they won.
Wondering if I'm being MajorPom again.

I remember us doing that at the 2011 RWC. Perhaps the Aussies felt the same after eight long years...

That's probably 50% of it. The other 50% is the natural disgust at seeing Australians smile.
What you really need to do is to imagine a parallel world where India win that match and how bad it would have been watching the Indian team, their fans, their commentators, their politicians and their administrators celebrate.

@NTA I'd happily take 4 more years til the next Black Caps ICC Trophy!
I said after the last final it was as close as we'd ever get in my lifetime. I stand by that claim.
Surely T20 is a flakey enough format to fluke one eventually. Depends how long you are going to be around for though, it might still be quite some time.

Inaugural World Test Championship winners.
The rest is just shit 'n' giggles.
There is some element of truth to this.
Test cricket will always be the ultimate form of the game
……until they ban it which would send me into an absolute meltdown on the GOM thread.

There's a lesson in the local reaction here in Australia.
25 years ago and this would be front page news for days. Ticker tape parades, politicians queuing up for selfies, calls for a public holiday.
But now it feels like it has barely registered. Most people went 'we won? Sweet!' and went back to their lives. People should be recapping the highlights of the Cup, of which the centuries by Maxwell and Head should be considered in the 'all time' category. But I don't think they will. Or not to the level that Waugh in 99 or Ponting in 03 have been.
The fact that there's a T20 series starting this week is just the icing on the cake. As someone pointed out somewhere 'why are they celebrating? Hit the ice baths boys you've got a game in a few days!'.
The game has lost all meaning, all narrative in the endless quest for TV dollars. So the moments that actually do mean something are lost to all but the devoted few.

@barbarian thanks fella, interesting. ODI cricket has fallen away. It's a pity - was my gateway drug to the good stuff that is Tests. T20 is almost a different game these days. I do wonder if we'll see a split in players being 'Test' or 'T20' - where the skills are sufficiently different to justify different teams.
