@foobaNZ He an assistant coach to the premiers here in Wainui which makes me wonder if he’s staying as I doubt he’d commit if he went somewhere else. I saw him today but forgot to ask him.

@Chris They could do a lot worse by signing Joel Hintz. I never saw the man bettered in a scrum this year.

The Canes seemed to be building something promising but are now basically this meme. Shocking up front, but good out back.

@frugby I argue that we are strong up front, shit through the middle and strong out the back. Assuming we are talking about the forwards.

The backs are a bit hit and miss tbh.

The Canes tight five outside of the starting front row looks diabolical to me. Good batch of loosies, but lacking a superstar (Could yet be Flanders or Lakai) in the absence of Savea. The starting backline should be a good one, but very little depth. The squad is so imbalanced, cracking midfield, but you wonder whether they would have been better served chucking the bag at a top quality lock.

@frugby I feel like this is a trend across all our Super sides. The lack of depth is massively worrying and continues to get worse every year with competing comps draining our talent pool.

There are no signings that will entice extra bums on seats, that’s for sure.

@frugby it seems to me the Canes just don’t have money to throw around. Why would they go for a guy like Grant who is in the MLR instead of investing in a top class lock from somewhere else…

@Canes4life They could have signed someone like Geoff Cridge. He's better than Grant and won't expect the big money of someone in the NH.

@Stargazer could have also signed Sangster, Bird and Delany but they haven’t yet.

I’m pretty worried that we may lose Delany and Sangster who I saw as two keys to our pack going forward.

Sweet so the Canes should have a really decent top 23 and then not much depth under that. Bloody hope we can keep players fit next year.

If we sign Delany and Sangster then this is my 23 now. Even though I think Mafileo should start at loose-head I have him as the reserve tight-head to fit both Numia and Rakete-Stones into the 23, plus Mafileo is also a decent loose-head aswell.

    1. Numia
    2. Aumua
    3. Lomax
    4. Sangster
    5. Walker-Leawere
    6. Delany
    7. Kirifi
    8. Flanders
    9. Roigard
    10. Cameron
    11. Naholo
    12. Barrett
    13. Proctor
    14. Sullivan
    15. Love
    16. O’Reilly
    17. Rakete-Stones
    18. Mafileo
    19. Howden (Delany to cover lock)
    20. Lakai
    21. Perenara
    22. Godfrey (covers 10/15)
    23. Higgins (covers 12/13/11/14)

    @Canes4life

Looks a lot better than OK side. In fact, if Laidlaw is any good, a top quality head forwards coach is or has been signed (assume they have found someone but can't announce yet) and not too many injuries, then this side could do (much) better than last year

    Other options are

    Shields at6
    Delany at lock
Sangster or maybe Taula at 19
    Barrett covers first
Moorby at 22 or starting on the wing

Sullivan either starting or at 22

    Or Moorby on the wing

@Canes4life take Lomax , Barrett, and possibly Roigard out of the mix it's gonna b along season , loose forwards very average as are locks , backs maybe but won't mix it with the big boys

@george33 take your 3 best players out and it'll be a long season? Well, yea. Thanks for that observation.
