Honestly Mike what has DuPont done this year?

Been the best 9 in World Rugby
Came back from injury in RWC
    They love that shit

This year? I disagree. He's a great player, but he's nothing like the best player on the planet at the moment. Best 9 is even arguable. I don't think he got the better of Murray in the 6N or Smith in this world cup.

He came back to lead his team to .... getting knocked out.

I think he's being nominated on past merits.

Best French player this year, by a mile, has been Penaud. He should have been nominated.

    Don't disagree about Penaud
Could also have been Ramos or Aldritt

But with France out, World Rugby needs to award France an accolade for hosting a magnificent RWC

This is how they will do it

Respectfully, Mike, this is the biggest pile of shit I've seen on here in awhile. The accolade that French rugby will get is the millions of Euros in their coffers, which they will be able to spend making sure that they're more successful on the pitch next time.

PS Aaron Smith has been the best halfback in the world this year, and deserved to be nominated in his own right.

It will be a savea injustice if Ardie doesn’t get it.

Arguably JGP has been the best halfback, for being integral to Ireland winning 17 on the bounce

Dupont was exceptional during the Six Nations (player of the tournament) and had two very strong games during the RWC (including the QF loss to Ireland).

Ardie has been, by his usual standards, a little underwhelming this year. He's come right in the past couple of weeks but he wasn't a standout earlier in the season. That being said, he probably deserved to win the award last year.

Still, can't see it going to anyone other than Etzebeth or Savea.

@Stargazer Foster's nomination is going to trigger a few people here...

I hope Simon Raiwalui gets it. Fiji have been outstanding recently.

I've been accused of having severe FDS, but it would be a fair award. If he does it, he'll deserved it. Not as much as Fiji, or even Portugal, but that's not how these awards work. Rwc and esp the final, are heavily weighted. Coach of the year, yup, coach of the rwc cycle? Fuck off!

Released a comeback album. Dated Taylor Swift. Replaced Ed Sheeran in Game of Thrones. Maybe should have played more rugby recently, but you can't have everything.

Still think it was a shame Roigard didn't play more minutes. A fan.

Fair play to you on Foster.

I can't be the only one who has noticed a lot of anti-Foster posters (some wishing the AB's got dumped out at the pool stages) have become conspicuous by their absence.

@nostrildamus we'll see plenty of him post World Cup. He's going to have a long AB career based on what we've seen so far.

@scribe if the Boks win though it will be Eben. If New Zealand win it will be Ardie. Even more motivation to win the big dance on Sunday.

In the 23 years of this award, World Rugby have not nominated a single Prop for this award. It will be nice if one year, World Rugby acknowledged the outstanding play of the superb athletes of this key position on the field.

@sparky definitely, considering a guy like Lomax has been one of our best this year.

Yeah, it is pretty shit. But the awards are a farce, with weird decisions all over place. I'm interested but so often I think, X or Y should get nominated/the award but I know Z will get the award.

I could concede that, most of my negative feeling are from the previous 3 years, there has been a noticeable change in tactics/selections and corresponding uptick in result this year

I think the change in assistant coaches has a lot to do with that.

So what is the actual deal with the Jacques bloke being there and not Rassie. Is it because he's not officially the coach but has some other title?
