Biggest and best rivalry in global sport, bar none.
I’d say the India vs Pakistan cricket rivalry may have a few more eyes watching (and a level of insane following) than little ol’ NZ and Sth Africa rugby….
LA Lakers v Boston Celtics the biggest in BasketBall
Celtic V Rangers is a pretty intense football rivalryBoth of those would be right up there.
Was during the 80s and then was revived for a short period during the Kobe era when the C’s had Garnett and Pierce. At least in the US the biggest basketball rivalry is the college UNC and Duke.
Real vs Barca is still massive too.

Real Barca yes. Don't forget the Lakers rivalry was big in the 70s as well, with Boston having LAs number in several finals

Yep, lots of rivalries in sports.
But the All Blacks - Boks involves guys putting their bodies on the line more than most of the other ones you mention.
It’s not about sectarianism or religion, it’s about the sport.
It’s been going for over 100 years. It’s not been manufactured by the marketing men.
More often than not it’s between the top two sides in the world.
It’s about mutual respect as much as it is about being ferociously competitive.

Doesn't it go back a bit before then?

SA should be massive favourites.
The neutrals despite what they will claim will want SA to win. The Irish will be obsessed with seeing NZ punished for beating them, the English will want the Saffers to win so they can believe they were a whisker from winning the whole thing and the Welsh and Scottish will see more sport in winding up NZ fans after a loss. French, Argentinian and Italian fans will probably support NZ but it will be lost in translation.
Finally Rassie Erasmus is a proven RWC winning coach. Ian Foster couldn't even win a Super rugby title, Joe Schmidt couldn't get the Irish past the quarterfinals and Jason Ryan is still finding his feet at International level.
Nah, you're wrong. The general consensus back home and social media is the neutrals want the AB's to win, for rugby's sake. Same for me, even though you're all a bunch of fluffybunnies in here

Started with Elgin Baylor and Jerry West's Lakers

In here? Pretty sure that extends beyond...
Anyway, you Irish are growing on me again with comments like that 😀

Man you are doing the commentary on RWC so much better than your press and retired players! Never a truer word spoken

Watching South Africa they don't tend to create a lot in their backline, but score off the errors of their opponents. England's style of play didn't provide them with those opportunities, compare with the tries they scored against us at Twickenham.
tl;dr version: We need to be very accurate.
-
Really hope the ABs spend the week scrummaging and box kicking the leather off the ball. Play in the right areas of the field and you win this game. Despite my Hitler and Stalin jibe, I can’t stand the thought of Rassie winning another. Ideally I’d love to see him so upset he makes another video

@antipodean this 💯

Just have to go back to 2019 to get excited about the great final coming up. We scrape through Wales , while England were on a big high after they beat the All Blacks. This Bok team have been there , done that, got the title and will lift for the final.
Hope Faf, Pollard, Ox and Willie starts. Get Willemse on the bench to allow 6/2 split.

Yeah, they have very little clue if those bombs are defused. Which is something I consider crazy when you look at some of their attacking weapons.
Wish we had Cory Jane right now.

@antipodean DDA, for all his strengths is not a distributor at 12. Neither is Kriel at 13. Ball rarely gets beyond them , even on a dry track. Bok wings are brilliant kick chasers and broken field runners on turnover ball, but they are rarely, if ever, on the end of structured backline moves.
Boks are married to their kicking gameplan it seems. Unless they have some dry powder waiting to be unleashed.
Bok gameplan is kick and klap. It maul for penalties and maul drive tries. It is applying pressure until their opponent breaks and pouncing on those mistakes. Simple, reduces errors that cost them.
Get in front of them like ABs did against Ireland (13-0), and I don’t know if they will claw it back. They did last night because England posed so little threat on their try line. They did against France because the French couldn’t catch high balls and provided them unstructured turnover ball.
If they are to win, at least make them earn their tries.
-
@OomPB ABs aren’t on a high after beating Argentina though.
ABs and Boks had their off game in SFs after the QF highs. SA had to go to the emotional, mental and physical well twice in a week.
If they turn up for the final and maintain the intensity we know they are capable of, it will be no mean feat.
