RWC QF: All Blacks v Ireland
-
@sparky to be fair, prior to that match, the ABs had only shown what they were capable of for short periods, our defence had been suspect, our discipline was awful, but, somehow it all came together v Ireland.
I reckon any analysis of us over the past few years would have seen our defence and discipline as areas to attack, multiple phases would normally attract pens, and multiple pens, cards, if not, our passive defence would give up massive metres and tries, but this weekend, it didnt, lets hope this is the new direction, not another blip.

The All Blacks have only lost one of
their own lineouts this World Cup
10/11 vs France
11/11 vs Namibia
15/15 vs Italy
7/7 vs Uruguay
8/8 vs Ireland
51/52 Total -
@Daffy-Jaffy I've watched rugby all my life. I don't know what "rucking" as a stat means. Is that a Northern term?
Does it mean clearing out? Using your boots? Hitting rucks? Winning the ball in a ruck you're involved in?
-
@ShitMcCaw I love this. You lost when it counted. No ref giving us red cards for accidental head clashes which is basically what gave you a series in NZ.
Maybe you'll be back to challenge us again. It will have to be in the pool or the quarter final though because semi-finals and beyond are for the big boys

I'm happy with Wayne Barnes, he keeps the game moving and won't allow the faking of injuries to slow it down. He's not a shadow of the ref who choked in 2007.
I'm nervous and hopeful, I see it as a 50-50 match. Mind boggling to me to see how many people think we have no chance. We are still the All Blacks and we have some magnificent players. The return of several key players after the France match is huge. If we can't get up for this one, we'll never get excited about a match.
We've got to start strong, hit them hard and slowly start putting the doubts in their minds that we used to get when favourites at a world cup. I hope there are no silly cards for accidental head clashes (but if there is, they go to Ireland this time). Come on Boys! It's still mind boggling how shocked some Irish fans are. The amount of gloating and premature celebrating on social media in the last 6 weeks is insane.
I felt Barnes went okay in how he reffed the ruck but missed some big calls - blatant from the side of the ruck when we were on attack. Not looking at a head high after we got an advantage. Massive forward pass in that last play, then a neck roll then a penalty to Ardie. I hope the TMO would have wanted a look at a few things if they had scored.
Very happy with Angus for the semi. Hope he has a good match so he also gets the final (likewise for the All Blacks).Edit: Woops I quote my own post instead of canefan's response. But I'm okay with it

Great clip and chart.
I've always considered Cane to be a great rucker, and it's been noticeable that's he's been a bit off lately. But his rucking was first-rate against the Irish, I actually thought he may have rucked > 4 myself, but I guess they watched pretty closely so I'll run with their scores.
Hopefully he rucks that well again next week!

@Daffy-Jaffy what the fuck is this?
Screams I had to come up with a graph to justify my shit take that the internet is rightfully laughing at me about. What's the measurement on the y axis? How is it a bloke that can't ruck somehow turns in a fucking masterclass with an improvement of 5.5% ?
You'd think Derek would have the common decency and awareness to fade off into obscurity. Or at least the producer should've said "don't come in, we'll call you".
-
also why is it a line graph? That's not appropriate for the "data"
-
@mariner4life easier for his minions to follow and manipulate to show what he wants?

@Daffy-Jaffy said in RWC QF: All Blacks v Ireland:
Firstly: Pencil neck immediately lost all credibility when he presented three discrete variables, including his own special made up ruck stat, as a line graph
Secondly: You've been really good at rugby for about five minutes Ireland, come back when you have 90 years of rugby excellence behind and then you can start sermonising on the All Blacks captain's deficiencies. Until that time we're quite capable of doing that ourselves.

Tbf I talked to a number of Irish before the game and they were shit scared. Like everything in general, I don't think certain media idiots or online "fans" are a fair reflection of the reality.

Weird that people upset about some footage of some crap refereeing that could have cost us the game at the death are upset by some malnourished internet nobody drawing a graph about Sam Cane.

A line graph is the only way to show
