Lions played like the South Africa team on attack, not much idea what to do with the ball or how to score points.

Beaudy I think is the best and most influential player in the world right now, forget about best 10.

Have been saying for a year or more that he might eclipse Dan by the end of his career and if that happens AB fans will be spoiled rotten.

Some what hungover this morning after having to pop into various establishments on way home from game to dry off and warm up. Avoided hypothermia that way so very wise I think.

Lions will remember that game and learn from it. Just like the canes did last year. Some serious talent in that squad.

Had an interesting chat about AB squad. The 'canes won Soup rugby but when you look at TRC squad + extra trainers have surprisingly few in AB training group.

We all had to have another pint to think about it, but figured the AB group was about right on fringe selections. The 'canes might have won but there are only a couple of AB starters amongst them. Coles and BB.

Ardie and TJP are rightly bench warmers because the starting player is better/more rounded. The Julian enigma would be lucky to start for Oriental Rongotai at the moment.

Previous canes squads have had more ABs but been beaten. This squad winning says something about both Boyd/plum as coaches with ability to form plans and really change team culture so they can execute them but perhaps also that soup rugby wasn't that strong in 2015-16.

Who cares any way. The boys won and got their name on the trophy at last. Another monkey gone.

Now the ABs can win RWCs, the canes have won soup rugby.....all that needs to happen is Wellington win the NPC...but one can only expect a certain number of miracles in ones lifetime.

I know that's the one they picked up on but Uhila also knocked it on after that. Wasn't commented on as they picked up that one.

Wasn't saying they were, only commenting on the 'canes comparative lack of ABs this year (and the AB selectees are right) but winning. Perhaps your point is the highlanders and canes wins mean having more than a few ABs is a problem in soup rugby?

Just read thread. That's funny about Taranaki. They certainty did the canes a solid before jumping ship by giving the canes BB.

Anyone else think there was a late tackle by Halaholo? Suspect it also took out Mapou as a defender allowing CJ a clean run to the line.

Canes used to be the party team that were doing idiotic stuff off the field and now the chiefs are paying $50 to toss a skanks salad . I suspect the malign influence of Taranaki at work here in both teams , pleased to move them on.

Said as much to Mrs Boo. She grunted so I took that as agreement. Having said that when Marshall did have a crack it was the wrong option.

Neither were the Chiefs when they won their first. It seems to be the way with the NZ teams now.

TBF, it's a bit stink think the Canes won this year and not last year, I would have preferred it the other way so that Ma'a and Conrad could have had a win.

Say what??? He's not close to DC, he's had one awesome Super season and two awesome tests at 10 and it's taken him 5 years in the ABs to reach that level. I'd want to see him back up this form next year before he gets mentioned at DC's level.

C.Jane bit of the dark horse in that playoff run, fielding a lot of kickoffs, reliable, sharp on attack, that fantastic spatial awareness stll undimmed by "age"... easy wing selection choice vs J.Savea... if injury hits in TRC, the AB's could do worse!

Still classy, and any slip fieldsman would have been happy with that reflex catch before the trademark fend and try

Like the Naholo one the Saffer chaser wasn't even looking at the ball, and only grabbed the man. IMHO if you aren't even looking at the ball you aren't making a play at the ball

in fairness, he did say 'by the end of his career'... he's getting game management to go with his extreme speed. Also his tackling has improved out of sight since he came on the scene - he was a turnstile at the start of his career.

Watching it gain (sober) and Ardie is passive again in defence (when he's making tackles). Given the4 difference between his impact on defence and attack is clear why the All Blacks coaches have him on the bench to create havoc against a tiring opponent.

James Marshall is quite shit.

Gosh think people are being pretty harsh bitching about no yellow card. Barret was on the ground a split second before he was tackled and only jumped just before impact.

Enjoyed the game. Liked the intensity and the big hits. Thought there was some soft tackling from the Canes at times but they recovered with some desperate defence which has been their hallmark in the play-offs. In the end, the Lions didn't play safety first in the their own 22 and paid the cost.
