RWC Week 4: All Blacks v Italy

@BerniesCorner Credit to Hansen in 2019 he actually made some big selection calls. Just a shame he was the only guy in NZ who would have dropped Ben Smith.
-
I'm very happy Roigard was selected.
Very surprised they aren't testing out Blackadder here to see how he copes.
Very sad they still play the 10/15 Mounga-BB combo as it only seems to work 1 out 20 games or so.
I think it is a mostly good bench and I can see why they have ALB but I'd rather have Leicester. -

I don't think credit should be given for big stupid selection calls.

I have just twigged on Foster's genius, 3-4 years of incredibly predictable teams then once/if into the sudden death games: complete change in selections and tactics, brilliant! (Holds fingers in front of eyes).
How for so?
Hasn't he been criticised for not settling on a team?
And now he's picked a first XXIII he's predictable?
And that's somehow a complete change in selections? -
@mariner4life not mutually exclusive

100% but i'm just not willing to absolve the players of blame just because i think the coach isn't much chop
-
anyway, despite all that i think we beat Italy by 25-30 points.
-
@mariner4life although in 4 years where it seems we can't execute the plan he'd have altered it to one they could consistently...

@Bovidae yeah I said a few weeks ago I thought they had 'played' him out of form, such a shame as his (in form) style is certainly what we need v the likes of Ireland and SA.
I not sure I have see ST look real good all year, I wonder if he either having 2nd/3rd year yips, or more likely he just doesn't scare big physical teams like the Boks etc. Just my kind of take lineout wonks and not real convinced on his scrumming, he will come right, but I don't have a problem with Colesy getting 20 minutes ahead of him, and think it's a coin toss almost.

On Samisoni, I personally feel that he is just one of those players that needs to be playing rugby, getting small minutes off the bench isn't conducive to getting the best out of him, but by the same token, what do you do if his form in those limited minutes isn't upto expectation.
It's pretty telling that Taylor was given every fucking chance in the world to get some semblance of form back. The same clearly doesn't apply to Taukieaho even though if he was to get his form back he's a better player. Taylor one of the ones to stand up for Foster in the ranks?

Like playing Scooter at 6 to dominate the English lineout in the semi?
Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I saw an interview with Hansen recently,
He said the biggest mistake he made in the preparation for that game was to create a happy positive vibe in camp through the week. He said they thought they were going to lose Reid through injury and he was worried heads would drop so created an upbeat atmosphere.
And in the end they lacked the fire in the belly they had the week before . Talked about it like it was his biggest regret in coaching and would love that time again .

Hopefully he'd recognise his other mistakes and rectify those too and he truly doesn't belief being happy was the main reason!

The irony is Read was very much hanging on by 2019.

@Nepia yeah, when you select a lock at 7 in order to provide lineout height... probably a good idea to get the team to actually challenge the lineout.
Might want to ponder whether the slow moving distributor is the best guy for the wing too.

Yep, might not have been much of a big deal if he wasn't available.
Diving into my foxhole now.

Strange thing is that I agree with this & think it applies to Cane as well.
Yet, I think we would have done better vs France if Cane had played.
