RWC Week 3: Springboks v Ireland

Then when the Boks were having all kinds of forward dominance both at the breakdown and at set piece, it was great to watch.
This is the reason I think SA will win the whole thing.

Because they’ve consistently played together over a long period. Our team chops and changes every two seconds.
Given that Foster has more or less refused to make any changes not forced on him, I find this an incredible statement.
The team we named against France had one greenhorn, and he was on the wing.
That's been one of our biggest issues -- players remain in the starting team regardless.
Yeah it seems a bit hard for some to admit that other countries have better players than NZ at the moment

Razor is literally going to have to lead a revolution to get us back to the top

I certainly don't expect us to be world number one by the end of 2024, but I do expect some sensible, hard-nosed tactics & game plans. He's got 4 years, and it cannot be worse then the 4 we have just suffered through

I don’t think Ireland and South Africa have better players than NZ, but they are much better coached, focused and organised.
NZR threw away this World Cup cycle by appointing Foster in 2019 when there were much better options available (Razor, Joseph, Gatland, Schmidt, maybe Rennie).

I would be happy with consistent and competitive.

Good fucking game. Huge pressure, some incredible tackling, constant contest at set piece and breakdown
South Africa did more than enough to win, but some average errors and poor kicking cost them. Even though they lost I think there is a lot to be happy about
Ireland played good though, didn't cave at the scrum, tackled like demons, contested everything, and threw a lot of little shapes at the African defense.
-
But nothing I watched today makes me think either side is unbeatable

I feel that we are less than the sum of our parts right now. So if Razor can instill better direction there is no reason why we can't raise our level in a short space of time. That doesn't necessarily mean back to number one, but that we aren't the easy out that we've become
-
@mariner4life True, but sadly I don’t really see Foster’s Flops winning three big knockout games in a row.
Ireland the favourites for me, then SA and France, then NZ and England as dark horses. I don’t think any other side can win.

I'd have SA personally. Forward dominance usually leads to wins - it's very unusual they don't have a decent kicker. In tighter games as referees swallow whistles (ie the knockouts) I'd pick them.
So yeah, Ireland are probably more beatable. They'll still roll us, but we'll have a shot

Not having a kicker, then opting to take long shots at goal instead of touch is an, interesting, option.
Keeping their biltong dry?

Ireland’s issue is going to be the consecutive games they’re gonna have to get up for. Scotland game of their life. All Blacks/Italy game of their life. Semi against whoever game of their life. Boks/France in the final… Nobody will have ever done it harder

No country has done professionalism better than Ireland. They’ve gone from a joke of a team in the 1990s to seriously good. Don’t think it’s a flash in the pan either they have well structured development pathways.
Totally agree. At one point, the interplay between Aki, Gibson Park, Lowe snd Hansen had this development on show perfectly.

Basically taken a bunch of players who couldn't get a look in playing in NZ, and built them into a system which allows them to shine. Exactly how it should be

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry that you’ve listed them as a potential quarter final opponent

If that’s the case then we need to stop
Pretending these are teams of a country.
