RWC Week 1: Springboks v Scotland
-
@taniwharugby Don't think we have the pack to match them. We may hold our own with our starting pack, but as they start to tire and when their bomb squad comes on we will struggle imo. Our forward reserves aren't in the same league as theirs.
-
Re the head clash - yeah both the big calls were wrong this weekend - both should have been yellow cards.
The whole point of the "over punishment" of high tackles is aimed at getting players to change behaviour, but if smashing your own head and getting a yellow isn't going change behaviour then nothing will.

set the standard
problem is, the standard seems to change week to week
-
@game_film and Telea and Frizell got nothing for their high shots at Mt Smart.
The issue is that the current framework puts way too much pressure on referees to make game deciding calls in every game, but it is premised on the idea that it will make the game safer which I don't think is the case.
-
@SidBarret but they have removed that decision from the ref, but as we have already seen, TMO with the benefit of time and multiple angles can still get it wrong.
-
@SidBarret agree with that. You can excuse the ref, even the TMO sometimes when there’s loads going on. Might agree or disagree with what they’ve decided to do with regards to a solution.
What you can’t excuse is a retrospective process failing to act once you’ve told us where you stand on an issue. Hence, Tom and Jesse got some laundry to iron.
-
I agree with your last point about citings.
We've seen way too many cases where something is missed during the game which is plain for anyone to see on TV, but they fail to cite. I think a lot of that has to do with covering for referees. WR seem to take the view that if the referee misses something then it never happened.
But that also goes to the pressure refereeing teams are under in the game. Something like the Curry and Kriel incidents are things that ruin games because it is such tight calls and with outsized influence on the game.
I think we all agree we want the game to be as safe as reasonably possible.
My view is the best way to achieve that is by ensuring consistent and appropriate punishment for all foul play. I just dont think red cards and multi week bans achieve the goal we want with these types of head on head collisions.

Haven’t actually seen the Kriel incident but from what I’ve heard it was pretty much identical to the Curry one ?
So should be a card for the sake of consistency ? ( but Curry didn’t even deserve one so lets not go there )

is this legal? Using portable sunbeds on the Bok players to deal with the lower EU UV levels? He should be tanned and hide.
-
@Billy-Webb Thats the negatives I suppose. Beforehand I would take a 1 point win anyday. The Bok defense and player depth is unbelievable , the best in WR at the moment.
Libbok changed our rugby from dull and bored into something else. We need AE and Moodie in midfield against Ireland. We need to knock them over.

This is really weird. We have every amazing form of modern tech yet he is using something the HMS Hood probably used to communicate with the fůcking Ark Royal when hunting the Bismark during WW2. Seriously wtf?
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel They probably havent allowed it from the disco lights from the roof. Rassie did this at the start of his coaching career with the Cheetahs.

When was that? 1941?

Look, I'm not sure everything here is 100% accurate, but this is hands down the best analogy in Fern history.
Bra fucking vo

just wait for the next game when the Bok coaching geniuses bring out the windup gramophone - and the bat pact signal.

@nostrildamus As long as they get the results they can do the haka for all I care. The Springboks had suffered way to long without decent coaches.
