The McLaren surprised having that race pace on two quite different circuits. Bit unfortunate for Piastri losing track position to his team mate Norris in order to cover Hamilton's first pit stop, but definitely proved to be a good overall team strategy call. Always fun to watch a race where different cars are 'in the zone' in different phases and not all just tyres, the low fuel Mercedes on slightly fresher tyres in this case. And some good old well fought Perez overtakes.

Great opportunity, tough with one practice session (which might be wet by the sounds) and then straight into qualifying but maybe that also takes the inherent expectation pressure off a bit?
No expectations. He's had some free practice sessions so he's not a total stranger to the car

He got a penalty and the team fucked up his pit by bringing both the AT drivers in at the same time. Could have easily finished P9 or 10. Should have enhanced his reputation and will have a chance to race at least once or twice more with Ricciardo out

Yup still getting smashed. 12 wins vs 2, 364 points vs 219. I don't get your point. Red Bull are leagues ahead of all the other teams and Verstappen is leagues ahead of Perez.
Oh no doubt Perez isn't as good as Verstappen, but I think it shows the advantage the car has when Perez can drive like shit for half the season and cruise to second. Bearing in mind Perez is clearly deemed as the 2nd driver.
Verstappen is something else, but my point is even with an average driver, the car still leads the pack.
