Danny Ric is back. Hard on de Vries but that's F1.
Will be good to have the smiling assassin back on deck.
It looks like an audition for Perez's seat next year. Which makes Ricciardo's move to McLaren even dumber in hindsight.

Three minutes into the first practice session and Perez bins his car.
Can't see him having a seat at Red Bull next year.

Meanwhile the young Kiwi Liam Lawson continues to tear it up in Japan
Apparently the cars are the closest in terms of performance to F1. It seems like the only thing potentially stopping him from getting an F1 seat soon is an ability to bring lucrative sponsorship dollars, something that Perez and guys like Stroll have

The McLaren surprised having that race pace on two quite different circuits. Bit unfortunate for Piastri losing track position to his team mate Norris in order to cover Hamilton's first pit stop, but definitely proved to be a good overall team strategy call. Always fun to watch a race where different cars are 'in the zone' in different phases and not all just tyres, the low fuel Mercedes on slightly fresher tyres in this case. And some good old well fought Perez overtakes.

Great opportunity, tough with one practice session (which might be wet by the sounds) and then straight into qualifying but maybe that also takes the inherent expectation pressure off a bit?
No expectations. He's had some free practice sessions so he's not a total stranger to the car

He got a penalty and the team fucked up his pit by bringing both the AT drivers in at the same time. Could have easily finished P9 or 10. Should have enhanced his reputation and will have a chance to race at least once or twice more with Ricciardo out
