Extrapolating the selection logic here, why not just take 33 wingers, then we'll score load of tries?

@kiwi_expat Looking at it...he kinda is on the plane. I'm thinking the 3 heading to the springbok game won't be on a long haul afterwards.

Also picking a winger will be unfortunately injured out at some stage and probably replaced by a loosie, especially if it's towards the end of pool play.

Because then you haven't selected Beauden Barrett and that's sacrilege.

@Duluth agree. I think with Mo’unga and Beaudie starting they will want a bench of

    1 x midfield (ALB)
    1 x winger (impact)

I reckon it’s a good formula and perhaps the thinking is that we need our wingers working harder than ever with certain elements (more kick chase, carrying the ball more off set piece and in the pods etc).

The other thought I had was will Fozzie want to pull a rabbit out of the hat and have Jordan start at fullback. This selection certainly gives him options.

Or will Fainga’anuku cover blindside flanker….

When is the last day to declare the squad? I think it is before the SA game, so these guys are locked in, and replacements are just that, replacements. If Scott/Whitelock pulls up lame vs SA, not broken, we would have no lock bench vs French, unless we permanently replace BBBR or Scott/Whitelock for the entire RWC. Just stupid wishful thinking.

We have two or three players in every position, apart from two of the highest impact areas Loose forwards and Locks (as one is already broken). I can't get over how dumb this is

    Clarke can also play 14.

He’s only ever started on the left for the ABs and even as a replacement he’s played on the left.

Take Bledisloe 1, when he replaced Beaudie, we rejigged the backline - moved Jordan to fullback, Telea to the right and Clarke went to the left.

I recall reading something about how he’s a stronger stepper in one direction which makes of better for him to be on the left.

Maybe they should try the other side, because he falls over with most of his 'steps'. I prefer Webber to Ginger, but I realised that wasn't happening. But if we dropped Clarke and took Finau, that squad would look 100% more sensible.

    Can we just clarify.

Webber is a ginger and has no chance of making the squad.

I'd much rather watch Weber than Christie, be it cooking a steak or starting at 9.

I mentioned before that think they are settling on a backline bench of a halfback/ALB/winger. No need for 10 or fullback cover with Jordan & BB in the starting xv

5 wings is still too much, but I think this confirms they’ll be using 3 specialist wings in the 23

    Yeah - I think that's definitely telegraphed.

I wonder how they got to this selection?

If Retallick was fit, it would've been a poor choice - with Retallick injured it seems crazy.

Ah well. I guess we'll have to trust to luck that no-one else gets hurt. We've spent the insurance premium on speed! 🙂

Where in 2015 for impact they used to like replacing nms with beaudie and smith moved to the wing ,beaudie to fb

It seems going by a few recent matches a different variation of that it might be a winger ( has been Clarke I was expecting leister was going to take that role off him ) coming on for beaudie and Jordan moves to fb .

Only a few are at a different province to the one they made the All Blacks from.

@mikedogz Weber/Finau/Goodhue/Lord should have entertained playing for Ta$man this season.

@Bones On 26 October 2019, Fozzie was already having a shit night.

Then he asked someone who won the NPC.

He's making sure at least that doesn't happen again!

Beauden Barrett has been excellent at fullback for the ABs this year. A whole of bitching about SR form (meaningless), and myopia when it comes to his international form.

Yep both barrets are great fullbacks, makes it even more insane to pick 5 (6 really) outside backs!
