Seems to me Lomax, De Groot are our top two, Newell and WIlliams (in that order) have potential, Laulala is back in the rear, not sure exactly where I'd put Ofa, doesn't really stand out anywhere but didn't make obvious errors to me either..
Thought Ofa was really good today.
Best I've seen him.

If we weren't taking three 1st-fives, McKenzie would be a worried man. The odd exception, he had a dreadful test match. The game was won by changing the halves and Australia tiring. Christie was like always, solid but unspectacular. Thought Leicester played himself onto the plane, whereas Stevenson did not do enough. Jordan will remain at 14, he wasn't that flash at 15. Finau had an invisible first half but grew nicely into the match.
Hope Newell goes ahead of Laulala. Laulala was very ordinary. Savea had a fantastic second 40, along with Whitelock.
A win is a win. We definitely have 1st and 2nd XVs at the moment, depth is not that great.

without Ardie saving that try we lose that game
Ardie saves one try per test match with a clutch turn over, almost every game

See the impression I got, is the change in play and dominance didn't really happen until Smith came on. Did Mounga do anything in the time he was on outside Christie?
I'll go back to what I said about Mendoza. Mo'unga didn't look great outside of Christie either when they both came on the field.
-
(Thought I'd posted but obviously fucked it up ...)
Re the come back:
I don't think it was down to Smith and Mo'unga. The come back was on before that.
Stevenson scored with Christie and DMac on the field.
I'm putting it down to our forwards sorting their shit out.
And I'll have to watch again, but didn't think DMac went that badly.
Kinda the same thoughts re Christie, but he's my No.4 No.9 ...
-
Not sure if it was necessarily the selection at fault but the way they went about it in the first half. But when you make widespread changes things can go off the tracks easier. DMac obviously had his worst game, perhaps ever. But they looked like the team we’ve come to know in the second half.
Aussies aren’t as bad as they’ve looked, but clearly when the temperature got raised they couldn’t handle it.
Second half the ABs just executed so much more precisely. Probably a good game to have, overcoming some adversity.
And well done to anyone with Oz +24.

I felt he did yeah
Like? Even the try after he came on, it was all Smith and I think Mounga handled once, maybe twice?
Mo'unga did some really nice work under the high ball
-
@Bones Are you just allergic to praising Mo'unga and criticising DMac?
It isn't that deep, DMac was crap lol, and as soon as Mo'unga came on we had tonnes more direction. Did Smith and an improved forward effort help? Sure, but Mo'unga also wasn't attempting silly cross-kicks across his own 22, running across the field and making aimless punts up the centre.

Richie had a near on flawless cameo. Overcooked one cross kick.

Nah, Mounga played nicely outside Smith - shame DMac didn't get the same opportunity. No allergies, just an aversion to shit halfbacks - combined with good eyesight 😉

You sure about that?

I thought that was a cracking match. The Wallabies were awesome to start with, at 14-0 down I didn't think we'd done too much wrong, just hadn't been given much of a chance to get into the game.
Some of our players, DMac included, lacked a bit of composure after that and tried to do too much instead of playing percentages and waiting for opportunities to arise. We also kicked a bit too much which didn't help.
The 2nd half we dominated and could have won by more if our finishing had been more clinical. That was a really good comeback against a Wallabies side with their tails up, I wasn't sure if we had it in us given how many key personnel were missing from the 23.
Could not have asked for a better lead up to the WC. Bring on SA.

I missed some minutes in the second half (and was on 'wow Aaron is playing really well' watch) so good to hear. I don't remember any penalties, think they were Tamati's today.

@Bones has a documented Mo'unga derangement syndrome, it's easy to filter out if you're aware of it. It's sad but it's not going to change and it's best just to acknowledge it and to get on with things.

When Mo'unga came on I said to Pakman Jr. that if we won I expected RM would get kudos, but that the AB pack had turned things around and that DMac would have looked fine playing behind that.
