Wellington vs South Canterbury (RS)

@Winger he's been solid without being spectacular. I really like the look of Anthony Pettett, who's bigger than Hugo. I think he has a slightly higher workrate aswell.
Both Pettett and Plummer will be playing for Super contracts this year. Plummer is just under 2m and Pettett is slightly over, they are both young aswell (around 23 I think).
Pettett is an interesting one, he came through the Wellington Academy with Taine Plumtree and Naitoa Ah Koui but then had a 2 year break after falling out of love with the game. He came back this year and has been starring for Johnsonville in Wellington Club rugby. He's the type of lock the Canes should be locking down. Tall, big, young and has a high work-rate.

South Canterbury in for their third try. 67-21 to Wellington into the 79th minute.
-
And the ref calls fulltime. Wellington defend the Shield 67-21.
-
South Canterbury reserve no 8 Siu Kakala should have started ..what a beast poor old Logan Henry won’t want to look at the video

Have to say mate, didn't see whole game, but what I did, thought young Plummer looked pretty ok. I have seen you mention him before, and will try and keep an eye on him this uear as a bit of extra interest type thing!

Pettett was in the Hurricanes U18 training camp in 2014; he was a year 13 student at the time. So he would probably have been 17 or 18 in 2014. That's 26 or 27 in 2023. Same age brackett as Asafo Aumua and Pepesana Patafilo, who were also in that same Hurricanes U18 training camp (among others).

@Stargazer oh there you go then, maybe the article I read was inaccurate. He did take two-three years out of the game though so it's good to see him back and playing well.

@Winger Filipo was really good in this game. Definitely the best back.
I've seen him play on the wing before. Looked promising but always looked more suited to the midfield to me. But he's unlikely to get much game time there with Wellington. Even on the wing unless there are injuries
Maybe his past would put other teams off but he needs more game time to show if he's good enough in tougher games at this level.

With Blackwell still to return Plummer might not get many starts unless there are injuries

@Winger Especially with Bird playing so well. He looked like a man unleashed after sitting way too much time on the Canes' bench or in the stands. Huge workrate and very dominant. IMO best forward of the game, despite Aumua scoring 4 tries (3 were driving maul tries, so team tries; the other one was awesome). Whitman was also good btw.

@Winger is Blackwell returning? He’s signed to go over to Japan hasn’t he?
Haven't seen anywhere that's he's leaving early. But he could do both. Maybe he will stay with Wellington but with limited game time. Rest the body to start with his new team after NPC finishes
