All Blacks Vs Springboks RC Week 2

Back to my point about the "exits" (in my day pretty sure we called them clearances) head Mex on Devlin the other day.
Not that I'm a fan of Mex's analysis but he made a good point about not kicking for touch. Mentioned lineout being a strength of those peeps, so the 25% return on the contestable kicks was a good option.

3 syllables. Too long. Unless they rhyme. I look forward to the day they're referred to as "kicky-outies" - yeah, more syllables, but... feels appropriate and very possible in our slide towards Idiocracy.

Yes, if we gained another 10 metres by kicking it out and giving the lineout to the boks, they would have more than likely won the lineout, mauledupfield 10 metres and allowed them to control the pace of the game and dictate how they played.
The contestable kicks creates unstructured play and we won a very high % of them.

When we contested them. Easy turnover when we didn't

I 100% agree, except when there are 2 minutes left in the half, so we get 30 seconds setting the lineout, then 30 seconds of a maul, and they are still 40-50 out. I still don't get the timing of Barrett's ridiculous up and unders when there are only a few minutes left in the half.

It's like he has no feel for the game, just does the same thing regardless of the situation

What fucks me off is everyone blowing Barrett etc (did you see the breakdown, jesus get their dicks out of your mouth), when it was actually Will Jordan being Will Jordan and Frizell having the absolute best game of his entire career.

Didn't see it. And clearly they weren't watching the same game as us

And added to that helped let Boks control speed of the game, which we were obviously trying to prevent. I got impression the ABs were trying to not let them settle too much even on our throw in etc.

I saw Breakdown, and had no probs with their take on game. Mind you I thought the RMo and BB combo worked bloody well , and both players were f***en good Jordan had by far best game of his career too.
Also thought it was great prrformance by tight forwards, BR abd SB were phenomanel in second row, and front row were also impressive. I also thought we lost a bit at breakdown after Cane went. -
@DaGrubster We got lucky, and won more of the 50/50s than usual. That doesn't make it a good tactic. We've been using it too much for a couple of years now, and it has come off pretty much once.
Kicking it out isn't the only other option. Kicking long and in, as the Chiefs did all season, works. Make the boks kick it back, then the contestable kick is in a better spot, or they kick it out and it is our lineout. Or they run it back and you back your defence - but from further out.
Le Roux has a good boot, but does over-cook a few, and I don't think the two Bok wingers are particularly notable kickers - so based on the opposition kicking long makes sense too. -

Comments re Ardie doing some of the dirty work when Etzebeth was trying to distract him...
If there was a top rope nearby I would have expected Ardie to have done a flying elbow off it. Great stuff !
